UMAT & Interstate applications
« on: September 21, 2011, 06:11:57 pm »
So.. does anyone have a table of ATAR to UMAT ratio which interstate universities generally take?

I didnt do as well as planned :( But still think my ATAR might save me...? 73rd percentile, basically failed section two although I am nowhere near a social retard =/

With a UMAT of 73, your best options are Flinders (10% UMAT only) or James Cook (no UMAT) or Griffith (no UMAT)

73rd Percentile won't get you into Monash (unless you get a 99.95), it's a similar story with UNSW

Although if you got all sections above 50, you definately should give UQ a shot

I got really low in the second section lol its so stupid.

Which state is flinders...?

I was never really aiming for monash... its only on my application because there are 12 spots lol - 90+ percentile is too difficult

Flinders is in Adelaide - their course is newer, so that's why its slightly easier to get into

Queensland is quite good as well from what I hear, I have a few friends doing Med up there, but if you want to make a QTAC Application, you have about a week to do it :P

I'm not too sure about Newcastle - never really looked at them
But Adelaide has a good medical course, but it looks at the UMAT quite a fair bit, but you should try out, considering there's no loss :)

Sorry to say this mate but with that UMAT score, it would be very hard to get an interiview  - If fact, I cannot see you getting an interview in monash either due to the new ATAR/UMAT stream.

In your position, I could not have recommended more to apply to JCU - as honestly that is where I see your only last realistic chance of beginning undergrad medicine next year lied. With flinders in SA - you need to get a competitive atar, I am predicting above 99.

If this is any help, my 99.35 and 98%ile did not get me an offer at flinders - I am sure you need a higher ATAR - with the UMAT being a bit more negotiable. Griffith is still more than possible - but their lack of interview requries, once again, a high competitive ATAR

Honestly, in my opinion, of all the universities left for you - JCU would have been my choice, it's a fairly decent medschool as well - offers you the interview to prove you are not a "social retard" and soforth - only a pity you did not apply for it - if you want to get into med, you have to be bothered filling in your applications mate :(

hey - it's easier than sitting the UMAT

[EDIT] - UQ requires above 50 in S2 - what was your S2 score?
otherwise, give them a shot - even if you don't get 99.95, just a 99, or a 98+methods/language/spesh will qualify you with the best possible ATAR equivalent (an OP1) in queensland - basically, it places you in the top rank as far as your High school endeavours are concerned. UMAT cut-offs, even for OP1 candidates, mind you, are usually above 85 - about high 80's low 90's

Griffith doesn't require UMAT or interview just an insanely high ATAR 99.60+ most years...

Last year my friend did IB and got an equivalent of 99.6 -- he had 88 UMAT so no MBBS - went dent at Adelaide.

Yep you definitely still can - would want a good interview though! - UADEL dent prioritizes interviews first above UMAt

As if 88 is not good enough for an interview at adelaide for mbbs? I know they discriminate against inter-staters by requiring higher umat scores, but i heard they got in trouble for that, not sure if it's true though... Damn, I should've just gone and lived there for 5 years. Also does anyone know if they go by percentile or overall score?

This was made 2 years ago, but I don't think it'd change much....

2010: Business Management [47]
2011: English [44]   |   Chemistry [45]  |   Methods [44]   |   Specialist [42]   |   MUEP Chemistry [5.0]   |   ATAR: 99.60
UMAT: 69 | 56 | 82 | = [69 / 98th Percentile]
2012: MBBS I @ Monash
