The DDS at melbourne uni is a graduate program and nobody can get in without having completed an undergraduate degree first. If you get a 99.9 and the Chancellor's Scholar program you have a guaranteed place but you'll still need to do science/arts/biomed/etc. first

im sure you can because i went to the opening day and the guy said  there is a new doctor of dental surgery that will allow you to get straight in and its a new course that will offically happen in 2012 for the first time.  instead of doing bio medicine you can enter however requirments are strict. you need an atar of 99.90 or 99.95 :/

If you want to do undergrad dent, go to La Trobe in Bendigo.  ATAR needed is around 99.50.

Otherwise you need to do science or biomed first, meet the prereqs, sit gamsat and then apply to MelbUni for postgrad dent.

If you get 99.9+ and go to MelbUni for undergrad, take science/biomed then you don't have to sit the GAMSAT and are guaranteed a CSP spot.

No. You can get a guaranteed place but under no circumstances will you be able to commence the DDS until you complete your first degree. There is a new course called the Chancellor's Scholar program for 99.9+ students (CSP place) and another guarantee for 99+ students (FFP place). Neither of those waive the undergraduate degree, you still MUST finish it (and take prerequisite subjects).

Personally I agree with StoneCold - just do it at La Trobe, you'll be done in 5 years, there's no point in spending 2 more years at uni :P
But if you really have to stay in Melbourne then I guess it's a good course

To apply, you will need to put Bachelor of Science in your preferences, if you get 99.90+, then you'll end up getting the Bachelor of Science
You do the Bachelor of Science - taking the right first year subjects so that you can take the pre-requisite second year subjects
In your third year, you download the Guaranteed Entry Pathway form from the UoM website, which you fill out and submit
You'll have to pass an interview after that (No GAMSAT)

He/she can take any degree, not just science. Biomed offers the prereqs built in and arts/comm/others allow them to be done through breadth/CAP.
Also, when you put the VTAC prefs in, the Chancellor's Scholar program is a DIFFERENT course code. Make sure you put it in or you won't be considered

Hey stonecold, would you happen to know anything about the Bio prereq at La Trobe? It's a really dodgy topic and... :(

Best to speak to iffets12345 about that one, but like most universities, they are likely to overlook certain shortcomings/prereqs if the ATAR is high enough...

Can we put the Chancellor's program as a preference after we know our ATAR?

Wait, so you can do the prerequisites under a Commerce degree for example? :S
I thought it was Science or BioMed only? :\

I'm not saying it is impossible, but you are going to struggle to get all of first year Chem/Bio which are needed for second year Anatomy/Physiology/Biochemistry prereqs in purely as breadth at Melbourne.
