Sleep

Just wondering what would be the optimum approach to sleep a VCE student should have with just a few weeks before our exams.

Is 8 hour the optimum or do we need more sleep say 10 hours? Or is less sleep more effective say 6 hours so we can study more? Or is this counter-productive as studying while sleep-deprived is bad?

Is it good to study up late or wake up really early and study? Like 5AM or even earlier!

So far I'm going to sleep at 11 and waking at 7 for my regular 8 hours. But now I'm thinking of possibly sleep at 10 and waking at 5AM to start doing practice exams!

In the end, I guess every person has a different optimum approach to sleep since we're all different but how can I prepare myself the best way possible when it comes to sleep?

It would depend on the individual. If i get more than 10 hours sleep i usually feel lethargic during the day, but if i get less than 7 im dead :/
I reckon it's too risky to experiment with your sleeping patterns at the time of the year. Just be smart about when you need sleep, like im going to (hopefully) go to bed an hour earlier and get that extra hours sleep rather then procrastinate on vn/fb or try diong that extra hour of study when im pretty tired - because it would just be a waste of time.

SLEEP IS UNDERRATED!.

I think you answered your own questions well :)

And yep, there's support for too much sleep being bad just as there is for too little sleep! I think whatever's going to be manageable for you - if you think you can stick to 10am - 5am then sure, why not.

Ah, I wasn't doing the maths on that! What I mean is, if you can do that day by day without going into a state of sleep-deprived non-studiousness then go for it. If that's too little sleep and too early then I'm sure you won't study as well and won't actually be able to stick to that.

Hmm true but I'll experiment the 10PM!! to 5AM time tomorrow night. Just not tonight because like every other night, I have dinner at 9!
I think forcing yourself to sleep early and wake up early to study would be better since you won't procrastinate as much like you usually do just before bed. And also no one's gonna disturb you super early in the morning right? :P
Apparently 10-7 is the best but I guess sleep is different for everyone :)

I usually wake up at 5am, go for a jog and get ready for school before ~6.15. Then do a practice exam/italian practice till 8. Decent way to start the day.

It's more important to go to bed early than to sleep for longer... I'm pretty sure. Trying going to bed at 9-930ish and doing whatever you needed/wanted to do early in the morning before school after a little exercise to get your body ticking.

Personally I need at least ten hours sleep to feel 100% the next day.

OMG I'm too drained to get out of bed in the morning, let alone go for a jog hahaha but good on you! I wish I could do that LOL ;D

Went to sleep at 10:30 last night and woke up at 5:30 to do a practice exam. Let's say it didn't feel as good at the start. But then when I started doing the exam I felt kind of fresh.

Ate dinner at 5 today so I think I'll sleep early and wake up even earlier tomorrow :P

I don't really understand why I'm doing this though...

man i tried this routine on the hols, getting up early at 6:30, never worked as i could never bring myself to wake up - despite three alarm clocks situated in my room
- on a shelf, under my bed, on my bedside drawer ...

Currently (for the past 2 months) ive been getting 5.5 - 6.5 hrs of sleep.
two days ago i got 8 hours, and felt extremely lethargic the whole day, slept 2 hours mid day, and then went on to stay up until 5 am doing methods.
Is it better to stick to the 6hours or try to routine in 8 hours, as apparently its good for cognitive ability (legal studies = easier to rote learn?)
