Is it true that if you recieve the top score for exams...?

of your cohort, that you receive the top score for SACS?

I'm just wondering about my scoring...

Because I recieved 39/50 for Unit 3 SACS
and then 43,5/50 for Unit 4 SACS

I'm hoping for an A / A+ on the exam, but what would be a realistic ATAR score for me then?
Could you predict both A and A+ ? :)
Thanks

We have 4 people in our chemistry class and our SAC scores are

a) 99%
b) 99%
c) 97%     <---- And I am this one (ranked 3rd)
d) 95%

But our exam scores are:

c) 92%  <------ That's me (1st)
b) 88%
d) 60%
a) 57%

Does that mean for my SAC scores ill get a complete fail of a 60% considering my original sac score was a 97% and my top exam score of 92%??
I am only ranked third in SACs by 2% and i don't think that my sac score should be a 'C' just because the "first ranked SAC sore guy" flunked his exams :(

Yeah that is what will happen if unit 4 is exactly the same.

No way! I dont think vcaa would be unfair like that. If you did well, you did well, if somebody else flunked the exam, it shouldnt be in any way shape or form your fault... Thats why i dont think youll be dropped down to a 60%.... If you do consistently well like that, I think your score should stay.

That's exactly what VCAA would do. They also might look at the GAT.

One student in my class performed very badly in the VCE examination.  Will this drag down the marks of the others?

No.  Analysis of case studies has shown that this is not the case.  In a class of typical size there are some students who do a little better than expected and some who do a little worse; the effects on statistical moderation tend to cancel out.  Students who perform significantly worse in the exam are omitted when the scales are aligned in statistical moderation.

Also:

"Is it true that statistical moderation is carried out separately for each class?

No.  Statistical moderation is applied to moderation groups, i.e. all students in a given study at a school plus any partner schools.  It is essential that all results for the moderation group are assessed on the same scale, i.e. they allow the students’ assessments to be ranked consistently across all classes.  This ‘internal moderation’ must be done by schools before marks are entered through VASS."

So it will probably be balanced off with another school or two, most likely with a lower average, which should save some marks for you :)
