I did two brothers and Emma on the exam. I was fine on my Emma essay but I was absolutely crap on my two brothers essay. I barely had anything to write on it other than the stage direction, how it positions the audience to feel, exactly why Rayson has positioned the audience in such a way, and the reasons why Rayson uses for example, rapid dialogue or the accusatory "you", or the "beat" to create tension, and through this, reveal where human expression should truly lie in terms of the desolation and desperation of these asylum seekers. Not only that I wrote half an essay on two brothers, didn't finish, and by the end of it (or what I had written), I swear it had looked like a language analysis for english. It was such a disgusting nightmare, because every single paragraph I kept repeating what I said about how it positions the audience and how it evokes a certain response and why she does this- why this is of particular importance in the conservative australian landscape.... But I still managed to get a 46 in Literature despite only doing half a two brothers essay??
In any case... I guess for future people doing two brothers... always include an element of stage direction and how it creates meaning and relevance within the context of Rayson's society. I think Two Brothers is a bit of an exception when you consider other plays and shakespeare. As to the ease of writing on it- some can argue that you can write on Two brothers easily since its a continuum. But you need to really top-up on your knowledge of contemporary australian politics, and read some of Rayson's other works as well as that interview she made. In the end, your two brothers essay might look a bit like a language analysis essay.... mine certainly did- there just wasn't enough to use other than the characterisation of Eggs and his narcisstic personality etc In fact I'd even say my whole essay was just on Eggs =/
