Are those VCE programs neccesary?

I know there are a lot of similar threads but I wanted some sort of straight answer for this.  All those "intensive" programs and shizz like that.  Are they worth it? It seems like these companies are just trying to cash in on the fact that some people will do anything to improve their chances of doing well and I'm not sure if they would actually do much.  Also, study guides, tutoring...what actually helps?

From what I've heard, TSFX and the like aren't really that useful if you've got a school that teaches you well already.  With that said, I find that generally speaking, if you lack confidence in a given subject, doing extra work (tuition, "intensive programs", etc.) will at least make you perform better psychologically.

intensive programs are all rubbish gimmicks. AE is the best. The cheaper the lecture, the better the quality; from experience.

If your skeptical sort of person the concept of 'i'm paying my week's wage so I MUST be doing better' won't exactly work.
Hmm...next year already. Well better set my goals and all...(raw)

It really depends on the person, I think.  Some people will genuinely feel better after they've "padded" themselves in a layer of protective VCE-help-program-whatevering.

I went to TSFX intensive classes thingys for methods last year, yet I still phailed come exam time. I went for chem in second semester, but did better in first semester. I don't think it helps, you could use that time to actually study, as opposed to writing down stuff they write on the projectors. I'm not going this year.
