GuAiA!

Just wondering if anyone had any notes/good summaries and all, what stories best to emphasise on within Alice Pung's edited novel, Growing up Asian in Australia?

Also, to emphasise ideas in our context essays (say we were writing an expos), is it technically advantageous to conduct deep analysis into an example or text? (not all the time, but only say once or twice in an essay)

Thanks in advance!

for me i'd probably say 'pigs from home' and 'sticks and stones and such like' are great stories to write about.
also 'five ways to disappoint your vietnamese mother'. 'wei lei and me' could fit some prompts.
i'm sticking to 'witness' as my main resource though, didn't enjoy 'growing up' as much.

from the stories you mentioned above, what were the ideas that you integrated into your essay?

pigs from home - although two cultures are extremely different, one can slip from one another and they don't necessarily have to merge.

sticks and stones and such like - i remember a bit where the writer scrubs his skin off because he hates his name so much and that's a pretty significant bit i may appropriate to my imaginary piece if the prompt fits.

five ways - i'd say that due to her belonging to family, it restricts her identity growth hence she has no other choice but to leave.

wei lei and me - it's easy to build resilience when with others.

what do you think?
