I don't mind the idea....i don't support it though. I still think it should be kept 100% free but the idea isn't that bad.

You'll find that with the quantity of data flowing through the site, it does cost a penny to run. We're talking in the order of gigabytes per month.

However, most of the funds will be channeled back into the site - there are a number of projects (e.g., site redesign) that require some base capital in order to invest.

I find it interesting that people are complaining nothing really. Nothing will change - VN will be exactly the same for you. We're just adding an incentive for people to help out further the aims of this site.

OK, this is my view; i am in support of enwiabe's proposal to allow premium memberships which will give those users a cosmetic advantage. I mean, if i created a succesful website i too would try to make it beneficial to myself in some way- like financially.

But these are the things that worry me; are costargh's claims that enwiabe was planning on making VN members only 2 months before the exam true? If so, thats DOG. You would abuse the trust that hard working contributors have put into this website, who have relied on VN for the whole year as a means of support.

I have a feeling this will be the start of many other things...

I just don't like how enwiabe writes on the VN front page 'free for all users' which, yes, in this sense it is still free but creates a misleading image. If you wanna say u wanna make money- just say it!!!
