How are we getting to Interstate Interviews
« on: October 29, 2011, 10:59:48 am »
So, everyone who's intending to go to NSW/SA for interviews, specifically Adelaide Med, UNSW Med or UWS Med, are you guys planning to drive or fly or go by train...etc?

Cause I'm thinking that air prices/petrol + car hire are too expensive for me to be running around Australia especially if I might not even end up going to that Uni :(

They should have Skype interviews :(

If I were in your situation, I would decide and limit myself to the university I'd most like to go to and then find the cheapest air fare possible. Car hire might not be worth it, public transport might be an option? I'd imagine most of those places would have some kind of service that travels to and from that university.

A train might work out cheaper than an airfare. Checking countrylink, if you get a student ticket (will you still be considered a secondary student?), a train to Sydney from Southern Cross is ~$65. Return journey is the same price. Of course, if you're going there by train, you wouldn't be able to come back on the same day.

Like you said, travelling to all those places would probably be too expensive. Travelling to one state might end up being pretty costly in itself. Other costs such as food, if you're staying there overnight or whatever might rack up as well.

I didn't apply for UNSW, but I did for UADEL, I'm probably just gonna fly there and stay with a friend...

Yeah, apparently given early jan I think, so that the interstate people can have an interview (hopefully) in their home state first..because obviously we'd rather stay in our home state than go interstate if we don't have to :P

But nah, I haven't heard anything either (assuming 98%ile is high enough :P)

Ah, the good ol' medical interview victory lap. Just try to fly there and back in a day, esp. for places like Adelaide and Sydney. You'll save yourself money on accommodation and such. Airfares are fairly decent nowadays anyway - I wouldn't bother with a train. It's still important to go though in case you're not so lucky with Monash.

Every ride on a greyhound bus is an adventure, and if you're lucky you'll end up sitting next to a junkie with just enough cocaine to keep you guys high for the whole journey :P!

I rejected Adelaide dentistry, purely because it's not worth spending money on a course i'm not going to do even if i get in

But I'm thinking of REQUESTING a main round interview with the NSW kids when the UNSW interview offers come out, I do intend to move to NSW if I get in - do you think they'll let me? One of my friends managed to talk them into giving it to him :S

I reckon they would. Afterall, they do it to try and help what they think interstate kids would want, but I'm sure if you want to be considered in the main round, with a little bit of administrative hassle, it could be done :P Although you may wanna get onto it shortly...
