A Farewell to Arms - unusual topics

so after revising and writing on a whole collection of questions for a a farewell to arms i've come across a few that are just WTF.

for example, questions regarding the setting:

“After a while I left the hospital and walked out into the rain” How does the settings and imagery in AFTA contribute to the reader’s understanding of the text?
I know you could talk about seasons and symbols such as rain and snow but i don't know how else to expand on this.
ALSO; whenever i see questions about men and women i often opt for the other question because it just seems too difficult to expand on.

If there's anyone else here doing a farewell to arms, who has had the balls to tackle these sorts of question would you care to divulge your secrets? :)
