I used the quote "you can't shake hands with a clenched fist" and basically talked about postive ways to resolve conflict such as obviously compromise, but also respect, tolerance, peace, and the search for truth and justice.
I made up some end to my conclusion like this--> we must uphold Indira Ghandi's words through approaching conflict not "through a clenched fist" but with an open palm to lead the resolution of conflict on the correct path.

it was really hard for me to fit in my external reference for identity and belonging -stolen generation- but i managed by a one page story on how a girl affiliated with the strolen generation had no where to belong and hence sufferred an identity crisis
.. is that ok

Not too bad, but i hope the examiners can see how i tried connecting my creative piece to the prompt... I tried making it obvious without using the same words as the prompt. Ah well..

hahaha ditto. did you do the crucible? i did crucible and completely disagreed with the prompt in the essay...hopefully that's okay haha
same! completely disagreed;
use this quote by mary parker follet:

There are three ways of dealing with difference: domination, compromise, and integration. By domination only one side gets what it wants; by compromise neither side gets what it wants; by integration we find a way by which both sides may get what they wish.

kind of argued that we need to integrate and not compromise as we will compromise our morality, and not dominate either

I was going to use that quote but it was too long to recall so I used Indira Gandhi's instead :)

I did something silly, instead of writing the text name up the top on the box I wrote the prompt, but I mentioned my text crucible in the essay, so will I be fine.

Whose Reality guys
I wrote about
Shark Net - communism, ie. Robert Drewe joined the communist party as a teen, the experience of most people growing up back then was to fear the 'reds under the beds', he defied this fear and felt happy to join the communist party
Westboro Baptist church - children brought up in atmosphere of hate, some go against this and leave the family
1984 - talked about how winston rebelled against the government despite everyone living in essentially the same reality. shows the despite our similar experiences, we can all have different outcomes.

Ok it was wayyy better written in the exam than above obviously, and my links to the prompt were better; but can someone tell me if they think these are legitimate links and it looks ok? I know I shouldn't be stressing and just forget about it, but I am. It was the prompt that I'd least prepared for and I rushed it in about 45 mins.

The Identity & Belonging prompt was so vague... and different to what I'd prepared for.
I interpreted in (what I think) an obscure way.
Wrote about how other people see you sometimes mattering more than how you see yourself, with comical reflections on conversations and observations of people I'd had at house parties :/

nice! yes, i hated this year's prompt. i thought it would be much more sophisticatedly worded. anyway, i wrote an imaginative piece based on growing up asian in australia. it was from the point of view of a mother who recounts her experiences as a high school student and explored the limited amount she had grown due to her insecurity about herself etc. and the fact that she tried to cover her cultural roots because she wanted to fit into the Australian 'white' community. i just hope that the examiners are able to see the thin link between the plot and the prompt...

I wrote on landscape.."We create the places we dwell in" or something to that affect. I challenged the prompt with a story that demonstrated how, in fact, it is places that shape us. Despite my protagonist's efforts, he couldn't erase the landscape of his childhood. Was heavily influenced by Macleod's short story "The Return".

Wondering if anyone has any thoughts on how the markers may react to my disagreeing with the prompt?

Feels like Conflicts' Crucible screwed me over with their 'compromise'.... Seems like it would've worked much better for something like Secret River though ;(

Yeh Compromise worked really well for Secret River and Rugmaker, in terms of dealing with the clash of cultures and the need to interact harmoniously.

yeah Whose Reality's prompt was garbage was very limited into the responses you could write about

I think I got a little lucky, the prompt suited the piece I planned (to an extent) as a central theme of it was two characters who chose two very different paths despite a similar background. Exactly how well I went? Who knows, I find it hard to say, especially with English.

Imaginative. All the kids that did imaginative at our school were so happy about the prompt, some even said it was PERFECT. Us expository kids...not so much :(

i just hope that the examiners are able to see the thin link between the plot and the prompt...

They will, even if they don't get the topical links they will realise it's at least about being asian. ;D

to the InB kiddies - how did you interpret "without connections with others there is no me" ?

I wrote about my homestay family in Hiroshima who treated me like their own (and wrote on my sappy past without my parents together and my brother left) and how I became someone else's daughter, sister and joker (wrote on my funny moments) ... but I dont know if I really hit that without "them" I wasn't "me" - I think I ended up saying without the homestay family I was a little lost with what "family" meant.... eep.

PS. text was Growing Up Asian lah!
