UNSW interviews
« on: November 07, 2011, 04:51:23 pm »
Hi

I just got an email saying I was successful in getting an interview at UNSW. However, my UMAT was in the 80s. I was under the impression that UNSW was highly competitive (like Monash). So my question is how did I get an interview?

Congrats to others who got interviews as well

What the hell?!!! I got umat of 66 (96th percentile) and real atar of 99.40 (took gap year) and got an email today saying i didn't get an interview for first round......how is this possible? I didn't even have a predicted atar, I have a real atar!

I had a umat of 65 and was rejected for the first round too! Although I think they do most of the interstate interviews in the second round because they like to wait and see if you receive an offer from your home state to save you traveling there etc. so don't worry just yet, you're still in contention!

It's weird. I know my predicted was high 99s but I can't believe it balanced the UMAT out...

WTF? I got a UMAT of 63 (92nd percentile) and I got a rejection as well. I assume my predicted was 98-99+, but who knows...
Especially for @will74, that's not right.. :-\

Yeah I did the form. They say they don't use it as a selection tool, maybe they're lying?

So even though I've been offered an interview already and my predicted atar and UMAT meet the requirements does my actual atar have to meet the requirement set by my particular UMAT score? If that makes sense

Maybe there's been a mistake between differentiating students from interstate and NSW... because on http://www.med.unsw.edu.au/medweb.nsf/page/Latest_News#local it says
'We will be making a number of offers in the Late Round. However, we anticipate that most or all of them will be made to interstate applicants who are being interviewed on January 25.' (in relation to MBBS places)
sounds like all interstate interviews will be held on January 25th?

You can contact them and ask for your interview in November if you want. It says having an interview in January doesn't disadvantage you
