How come you guys got p=0?
I remember doing that question and I only got 1 solution p=3/4...
Do I lose a mark for not considering p=0?

Bloody hell, I just realised I made the biggest noob mistake: I wrote the range for the first circular function question as [7,1]

I've been using a 3B pencil for all my exams apart from English - it's almost as dark as pen! (plus I just love the feel of writing with a mechanical pencil)

someone wanna explain why p can't = 0 for Q7c or whatever it was?

It's a coin, no matter how biased you make it, it still has two faces, so Pr(Heads) cannot equal zero

Btw, in the Exam, I wrote "We cannot take the Probability of you getting head as 0 because a coin has two sides, it makes no logical sense"
The pun was intended, I wonder if the examiners will pick it up ;)

What if the coin has 2 Tails faces?

It said "value of p," not "values of p."

for the domain question, would you still be right in saying:
R\ (-8,-2) ????

This is mathematically incorrect. You cannot mix set notation with interval notation. The correct notation is R\{x: -8<x<-2) or (-infinite,infinite)\(-8,-2) or (-infinite,-8)U(-2,infinite) or {x:x<=-8}U{x:x>=-2}.
Dr He. told us a story of a chick from MacRob that made this error one year in Methods and lost marks. He also suggested that it was because of these marks that she didn't get 99.95 because she got 99.90 at the end.

There has been a lot of argument about the coin question and whether or not the probability of getting head can equal to zero.
Here's what I found:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Probability
Quote
The certainty we adopt can be described in terms of a numerical measure and this number, between 0 and 1, we call probability
If probability is between 0 and 1, you can't have p=0. But after further reading I found all this stuff about the possibility of zero probabiliy, even negative probabiliy  :o
But the main argument is that the question asked for the 'value' not 'values' of p so since we are only required to give one answer, p=3/4.

But then again, I got the question wrong due to careless algebraic mistakes...ended up with p=2/3  :-\

aw no, not true. You can still easily get a 40+ with a 34/40 on exam 1 -  remember it only counts for 22% of your study score. It's exam 2 that really matters. Score a nice mid to high A+ and you can get yourself into the 40s.

From what I'm seeing here, the examiners should pay both, given that the wording of 'value' or 'values' may have confused. Personally I'm leaning towards the 'p=0 and 3/4' but I do also see the argument for leaving out p = 0. Examiners are generally fair, they would probably pay both if we get one of them to raise the issue.

My friend, Luffy, ended up with 35/40 for Exam 1 and he got a 47 Study Score, so it's possible to get a very good study score with a 35/40, just remember to keep trying and use this as an impetus for trying to do your best in Exam 2, it's best to give Exam 2 your best shot! :D

Well I got minimum of 25/40 which ahaha is not that great but considering I did absolutely no work and only want 25 I'm so happy :)

I hate absolute value.
