I'll keep it short cos you all have exams to worry about

Permissions changes:

- you can now delete your own posts and threads
- you cannot edit your own posts

- admins will check recycle board periodically. People found deleting helpful posts after they're answered will receive bans (and the threads/posts will be restored)

Justification behind no editing? Would've thought the inverse (or simply allowing both) would work better?

My view on things:
1. Users shouldn't be able to delete threads - the posts that get deleted with that thread are the property of their respective posters and the community as a whole.
2. Anyone's post is their own intellectual property - delete or edit your own post as you wish.

We can't see the original versions of edited posts, we CAN see deleted ones.

Editing your post achieves the same thing as deleting it, except we cannot see the original

Okay further explanations needed

- re: typos: you can delete your previous post and re-post without errors
- bans are not handed out immediately, we'll obviously PM you and ask why you deleted it first

question - will the post count be reduced after we delete a post?
too lazy to try it out, however yet not too lazy to ask this question

edit: the edit button still works?

But then your post gets sent to the bottom of the thread (annoying if the topic is going fast, or if you just wanted to edit an old post), often making editing not viable since it'd just put your post completely out of context. Plus it will cause it to bump the thread. Hmm. Shame that there's no edit log in SMF... I still feel as though the advantages of allowing editing outweigh the disadvantages though. The actual utility of the forum takes priority over troll fighting powar IMO.

Testing, testing.

Testing after a period of 3 minutes.

currently looking into a mod that'll allow a "courtesy edit time" - i.e. you can edit within 5 or 10 minutes of your post

test edit 1

test edit 2: wait that mod I linked to was ridiculously old.

This would be by far the best solution :)

Tbh, I don't see the problem with editing at any point...

I understand why you're doing it, just don't think it's the best solution.

The courtesy edit thing seems like an awesome idea.
