Where is this question from?

I think the reason b. is 'less correct' is because the 1988 privacy act doesn't deal with digital matters, however it's a fine line.

Looks like it's from the nelson website. I guess I would have gone with A ONLY BECAUSE the textbook makes a big deal about how the Australia Card didn't get introduced, so they created this Act to deal with tax  file numbers.

can we confirm that businesses that do not turn over 3 million or more are not subject to the privacy act?
.. unless their business involves selling or distributing personal data.

true?

A small business with an annual turnover of $3 million or less is a small business operator and so not covered by the Privacy Act unless it ... discloses personal information about another individual to anyone else for benefit, service or advantage (unless it does so with the consent of the individual concerned or is required or authorised to do so under legislation); provides a benefit, service or advantage to collect personal information about another individual from anyone else (unless it does so with the consent of the individual concerned or is required or authorised to do so under legislation);
Talking about small businesses section specifically:
I am confused about this though: so if they have have personal information from one person and provide a benefit to someone else - privacy act applies. So, it doesn't apply if they don't meet any of the other critieria and they use your information to provide a service to you?

Interesting that they can also choose to opt into the Privacy Act 1988.
