I think it's something like a couple of hours.

Depends on the unit to a degree.

I made a bunch of them a while ago: Monash Forum Userbars

Add them to your sig in the same way you'd insert an image into a post.

Small tip to us oldies:

To convert from a street address to building number (and name), just Ctrl+F the address here.

To go from building number to street address, do the same thing but the building number in brackets -- so for Menzies, "(11)" (without the quotation marks).

This tool is also reasonably useful.

And how to interpret your timetable:

nnChn = nn Chancellors Walk
nnAnc = Ancora Imparo Way
nnSce = Scenic Boulevard
nnExh = Exhibition Walk
nnRnf = Rainforest Walk
nnCol = College Walk
nnAll = Alliance Lane
nnInn = Innovation Walk
nnRes = Research Way

Soz I just realised I have no idea where have my classes are tomorrow, so thought I'd give a hand to anyone still stumped by it.

For jaffies:

Free "gym" is the basic equipment near the cricket grounds (as well as this, people often go for early-morning runs around and through campus if you're into that sort of thing).

You can get boiling hot water on tap in the foyer of building 25 (the one with lecture theatres S1-S4).

I'm not entirely sure where the international snack vending machine is, but I'd be willing to bet that it's in campus centre.

Damn it you totally ruined my pitch to help out the first years! Plan foiled. Well if anyone still wants to be shown around tomorrow leave a shout here.

AHHHH. I'm not enjoying uni atm. Woke up at 7am or something for a 9am tutorial and then when I finally got there, albeit late, I remembered our first tutorial was next week. Then I decided I would skip my maths lecture because the last one was so boring and I didn't want to wait for ages so I went to a friends house. Then I went back 3 hours later for a lecture but literally could not find the class and peoples directions were too confusing so I ended up falling asleep on the nicest piece of grass outside for 2 hours. Tomorrow I have classes non-stop from 8am to 2pm.

Eventually its just like going to the shopping center or your house. You just know where it is. You dont really need to think of your address, you just...go there. Indeed, in your later stages, youll only visit a tiny bit of the campus on the regular basis. I, like most people, have bits of the campus i just simply dont go to. I'd follow the suggestion in here though, scope it out before the lecture.

scope it out before the lecture.

I've found that really helpful personally. I've tried to get in an hour early and make sure I find all the rooms in advance so I don't get lost (and then go and see if any friends are around or just chill, not wait at the room for an hour lol - campus is just so big my fear is it may just take an hour to find a room though that hasn't happened to me as of yet luckily).

What are great near-campus venues, shops or food outlets that one can go to between lectures and such? Thanks.

Personally, i think the easiest way with the new building system is to visually look at the map. If you've been here long enough, if you can find the building on the map (even if it is labeled 23 anco imparo way), you can find it in real life. I've been doing it mostly visually so far and it's been working ok for me.

How long does it usually take for lectures to get put up onto MULO/Echo360? If you skip a lecture to watch it online, would you be a day or so behind the rest of the people who attended the real thing?

2-3 hours in my experience. I know because i used to skip my lecture and listen to the recording before the tutorial (on the same day). It was a 2 hour lecture and it came up at just the right time for me to finish it off before the start of the tutorial which was 2-3 hours away from the end of the lecture.

The real challenge here is staying up to date. Everyone thinks it wont happen to them but if you miss one lecture, then another, suddenly your 10 behind in the recordings. If you're like me, you'll use that as an excuse to continue skipping lectures too "Well...i've already missed this many and i probably wont understand it. I better stay home and catch up...".

Not much around campus per se. There's a maccas just outside the bus loop. There's a nandos that's kinda close. Never checked out the shops around huntingdale but they don't look stellar. There's a dominoes and another nandos near clayton station (next one down the line from Huntingdale). You could also get a bus to chaddy.

There's kind of a lack of things around the campus though, i suggest you find a way to make your own fun/occupy yourself on campus.

Two noob type questions but hey guess that's what being a jaffy is all about! What is the data limit when using the Monash internet under your log in? ~ if there is one.
Secondly, are we allowed to drink coffees or even eat (non crunchy food LOL) during lectures? Thanks!!!

- I'm not aware of any data limits on eduroam or the guest wireless, and I've used them quite a bit over the years.
- Absolutely, provided it's not distracting in any way. (Noisy, or smelly or whatnot) As a courtesy, I'd want to sit closer to the back, away from the lecturer, but there aren't any rules really.

I was under the impression only water was allowed in the lecture theatres - I may have heard wrong though.

Do I sign up to clubs tomorrow? Apparently the Arts faculty I was meant to join a few weeks ago the arts society and I've missed out on a few parties and some camp. I want to sign up but I have no idea how. Bleh.

Just head to the lawn tomorrow, behind the Campus Centre. There are tents that will be filled tomorrow for Clubs' Day. You should be able to sign up for it.
