Anyone else experiencing problems with the Monash Bookstore? I purchased 2 textbooks online from their site 2 weeks ago, they never sent me a confirmation email nor have they sent the books. Wth :/

Oh but they withdrew the money from my card. -.-

Monash connect were useless (telling me it wasn't possible) and after being sarcastic with them I was referred to contact the arts faculty coordinator who got me into the class within like 10 minutes. Talk about knowing the right people ;)

Hehe, just like in the real world!

Monash connect were useless

Understatement of the century. In my experience, going through student services or Monash connect is a complete waste of time. Avoid wherever possible.

Buy them in person. The online service is rubbish.

Or alternatively, you could always call them up and just enquire about it (read: gently remind them about it) since it could be a misunderstanding.

Have you looked around buying them second hand ?

Email doesn't normally work tbh..they're so busy they're inundated with emails and just never reply to any of them. At least that's my experience. Definitely call them up, especially if they've already taken out your money !

Finally catching up on all the posts...

Is there a stapler that can staple massive chunks of paper in one staple (50 pages) on campus? I have a stapler but the staple only goes through to the 20th page...

Something that big wont work (i've tried). You'll probably need to get it drilled/bound at officeworks.

Hey guys, got any tips for adjusting to uni life/making friends? Cause I'm struggling :( Everyone is really nice at uni, but I can't seem to click with anyone and all my friends are at different uni's (except one). I've met some nice people in lectures, but can't really connect with anyone in tutes....

Seriously, clubs. In my opinion tutes and lectures are really shit for it. Is there anything in particular you like? Anything in particular you have your eyes on? Just be proactive and stick your neck out there.

Any of you guys know if there are forums for first year biology questions just like the 3/4 biology one on AN? (Not including Moodle :P)

Maybe generic science forums? Probably better to post on the moodle forum though. You can also make a thread on the monash boards.

ah fair enough. in my book someone like that would be more of an acquaintance to be honest. yeh I'm not to concerned I haven't been to any organised events outside of class so that's probably why, gotta join a club or two more I reckon.

It depends. I feel its a bit of a catch 22. Its harder to go and do well at these things if you have no one to go with really. That's the reality. You just have to be bold and plunge into it head first.

not racist. sometimes the recording isn't as clear as real life. otherwise maybe try and download the recording and play it at a slower speed.

Might be able to enhance it in audacity.

PS: make sure you keep an eye out for the famous red coat !

Do you have brown skin?

as well as last weeks laboratory because I simply couldn't find the room as well as the workshop...., and I really don't want to go because it will just be awkward as I don't know anything, have no books and have no idea what is going on. What is a laboratory and does it matter if i miss it?

Labs are your compulsory activity. In-fact, you get marked for attendance and stuff quite often, you may fail (with no recourse) if you miss too many. It's essential you go. Same with tutes, if you miss 3 you mail fail.

Borrow the book from the library or photocopy it.

They key to connecting is making bridges outside of class. If you ever only see them inside class, one of you needs to take the initiative to move it outside of class. If neither if you do, it never will. If the other person isn't doing anything, it's all on you.

Everyone post your free times, ill see whether its feasible to get some kind of small AN gathering together (or not).
