Yeh I got a 43 in pol.

I didn't actually understand the question. I had no idea what a state system is nor did I understand categorising it into one cause; I started very, very late with very little mental power so I can't really complain.  I know I am wrong already but for my first paragraph I spoke about how states have sort of an agreement among states where as there is international law and you don't undermine sovereignty or it can cause war. Then I started going on about the most stupid shit talking about the 'contributory causes' all three as a single cause and my last one was like 2 sentences because I went way over 550+ words. I just linked the 3 things to do with contributory causes because it was the only think remotely relevant to 1914 in the book and spoke about how they can end up with a war, lol.

Then with referencing I had absolutely zero idea. I would get all the information from a single page and I was just like spamming footnotes throughout my paragraph haha. Oh god this will be embarrassing when I get it back … Time to kill the 45%'er though. I didn't expect much from this one as I don't know anything yet.

May have fucked up but I'll kill the next one :) I wish the essay was literally like the global pol exam asking just about the causes. I absolutely aced that exam (full marks on essay) like an absolute genius! :P
Yeah I'll admit the essay question itself was unclear, to the extent where the tutor had minimal struggle. I more or so spoke about the security proliferation dilemma and the entity to sovereign power.

hmm, I talked about the mechanisms across Europe at the time, such as alliances and nationalism, and how that contributed to war in 1914 + concluded that although decisions by leaders and chance occurrences can effect occurrence to war, it is ultimately the mechanisms and structures which provide the framework, for a 'spark' (decisions/coincidences), to cause a 'fire' war.

Hopefully I got it right ahah.

Yeah my other two paragraphs were on the alliances and chance occurrences, but it kind of all related back to the security dilemma - to me that is haha. Like the reason alliances were considered was to secure national interest and strengthen the state's security. Moreover, the reason Princip was in Sarajevo with a revolver (as a chance occurrence) was because Bosnian-Serbs wanted sovereignty.

hey guys. I'm really stressed. I've decided doing 3 units every semester is better for me, I need advice on how to structure my units etc. to allow this. However both the law and arts faculties say if you have a question about double degrees to talk to whichever faculty the units relate to. However I need advice on both arts and law units and how to structure them together (if that makes sense).

Who should I speak to? If such a person exists?

Figure out how to course plan yourself - trust me, it's a much better alternative to trying to figure things out with student services. >.>

Oh ok. It's just my main concern is units won't be available in the semesters I schedule them so I thought they would know when units are available.

The handbook says when they're available, though?

Write out all the units and their semester on paper. Cut them out. Arrange them on a semester grid you drew.

It's what i usually do. It takes awhile to draw it all out onto little squares and cut them but it makes it so much easier to visually see them all.

3 a semester is definitely a wise choice if you're struggling (or just in general). I wish i did it earlier. One whole less exam to worry about. One whole less gamut of assessment and content. Particularly refreshing for things with extensive contact hours or large exams (i'm looking at you science).

that idea definitely sounds helpful! thanks! I'm not going to bother with organising my course plan until next semester though.

Yeh, I reckon it's a good idea, just so I can focus more on my units, improved grades and it would give me extra time to do things outside of uni, like get a job (or chill ahah). I've worked out it would increase the length of my degree by around one and a half years, but if it makes life easier and improves grades and experience, therefore job prospects, it's worth it imo.

another realisation I've made is that I should try and do my arts units at Caulfield campus, since it's ~30 minutes closer than Clayton for me. I also prefer the quieter atmosphere.

Okay, AN. This is where I use you for your knowledge. Basically, I need a new laptop. Let me preface this by saying that I am technologically (and generally, but mostly technologically) inept.

I have been using my brother's laptop for many months because the one that I bought for about $1.99 at the start of 2013 was just abhorrently slow. That's been going well, but my intercampus exchange application was approved the other day, and I will need my own laptop in Malaysia.

Things I am looking for:
> Ease of use
> Fairly light
> Speedy
> Perhaps good for travelling purposes

I don't game, I don't stream or whatever. The only things I will be using it for, really, are a) browsing the interwebz for too long; and b) Word documents (a lot of Word documents). My other thought is that because I will be doing Honours next year, I would quite like to have next semester to get used to the new laptop.

I'm okay with spending a fair bit so long as it gives me good use over numerous years.

Any thoughts? Thanks in advance. :)

I too, technologically struggle, but I'll try to help out (although it probably won't be that helpful ). Take everything I say with a grain of salt.

I'm fairly sure an ultrabook (I think that's what it's called) will satisfy all of your needs. They're really thin and really light and I'm fairly sure they're quite speedy. As for travelling purposes, I think any laptop would be fine so long as you took sufficient care of it. The only issue with ultrabooks is that they're super duper pricey ! And I'm not sure how long they last in general. I mean, don't most laptops start to die after like 2 years ? (I'd actually really like to know this too, so someone PLEASE clarify !) I'm really unsure if spending that much on a computer for such a short amount of time is worth it. Someone with more technology knowledge should clarify this haha.

Tldr: an ultrabook is super sexy and you should get one if you can justify the price ;)
