If I had a one hour break between two three hour blocks I would not be studying :P

I usually didn't study during breaks, I get my best work done from 9pm to like 3am (I don't study for 6 hours, that's insane, just that anywhere in that timeframe is ideal for me!). Preferred to chat with mates for the sweet banter, or head down to Monash sport for some badminton or something (less commonly).

That sounds great. So is anyone allowed to use the badminton/tennis/squash courts? Or do we have to get a membership or something? Someone said it was $1 per hour, but that seems really weird.

Anyone with an ID can make a booking. Pretty sure it was more than that per hour (you rent the court AND net, we had our own gear otherwise), but if you split it four ways for doubles it's fine.

during off peak times you can use the courts and hire equipment for free. maybe this is a new thing but the representative of monash sport said that in askme training.

You don't need to buy them. You can just use your student ID instead with the machines in the library.

I made that mistake also and wasted $2.

Hi all ! It's been a while haha, hope everyone is well :)

If anyone is doing nutrition, I'll be helping out for orientation !

Also, a bit off topic, but is Glen Waverley or Pakenham/Cranbourne a safer train line to take at night by myself ? Much thanks !

Have taken both at obscene hours of the night/early morning, both pretty safe, especially if you sit in the front carriage which is usually more full. Having said that, I can't speak for after Clayton on the Pakenham/Cranbourne line, but personally I wouldn't want to go past Dandenong by myself (and I'm a guy lol), even during the day you get some strange folks get on then.

HAHAHA agreed about Dandy station.

At the moment, I'm leaning more towards Glen. Thanks for the tips pi !

How compulsory is the compulsory faculty orientation? I have one and it lasts like 5 hours and apparently its like bbq and games.. and to be honest im not interested in that. Apart from the faculty orientation i do not have any course or unit compulsory events.

You'll find that nothing in uni is really compulsory. Personally, I'd go just to meet people, but if it's really not your scene then don't bother.

... 5 hours? Nah, can't be right, that's way too many.

ANYWAY, as pi said, it's probably not compulsory - but I'd highly recommend going. Having friends in your course is nice at uni, trust those of us who have been where you are and will be.

At the end of the day, you go to uni to get a degree - but uni is soooo much more than a piece of paper after 3+ years. It's about meeting new people, trying new things, and expanding your personal bubble. It's a "you get out what you put in" situation, but you should definitely look more to putting in to the social side of thing. If you decide that that's not your cup of tea, that's cool, but you won't really know until you try.

Yeah its actually 4 hours 15 min long. I have a solid group of friends 'outside uni' and i know quite a handful in my course already, im not particularly concerned about the social aspect of uni as i share one with my friends and family already. I was just wondering whether or not it was 100% compulsory.
