Quick question, what does "self directed"mean when referring to practicals? Do they take attendance? Can I do this prac in a different time if it's self directed/finish it earlier/start later??

Thanks :D

Yeah usually they take attendance, so you have to start with everyone else at the same time, but you do the work at your own pace within reason (ie. can't stay until 7am the next day). I'm assuming this is a physical practical and not an online one (which could obviously be done any time before it's due).

Generally a good rule with med is to assume attendance is always being taken.

It was just a bit weird because there's no room allocated, so I'm not sure where we do it etc etc. Like do I do this at home?

The main Q is can I do a tutoring session starting 30 minutes before the prac finishes?

Is it online in moodle (if so, see edited post above)? Seems odd if no one knows where this prac is happening hahaha, could always ask the admins at 27 RFW for some clarification if moodle doesn't reveal anything.

I'd be surprised if there was an issue with you finishing 30mins earlier. Should be fine :)

I looked at the study guide, and it didn't say anything helpful tbh- I'm assuming since there's no location it's online though, but then again I'm a jaffy :) I've attached what allocate said too if that helps :)

For me its called directed self learning on my timetable and it basically means free period. You can basically do whatever you want but our course structure is different compared to the undergrads so it might be different.

Been a while since I was in first year, but that does sound familiar. Maybe that's something to follow up with your MUMUS academic rep (if you have one yet?) or the pre-clin VP (lol MUMUS has too many levels, a rant for another day perhaps) via the fb group. I'm sure others are just as confused haha.

I'll ask around :) thanks pi! Nope not yet, people are applying now though so that's something cool to look out for- did you do anything like this in 1st year/recommendations?

I've stayed well clear of MUMUS haha. It seems to be more of a burden than anything else; med students are notorious for having little patience and want thier results (assignments, exams, etc.) as soon as possible, which doesn't bode well when the Faculty loves to take their time with things, so reps tend to be doing a lot of chasing and pleading with the Faculty while simultaneously trying to tame the inevitable riots that their cohorts start on the fb groups. The society itself is also rather elitist imo and not really my scene tbh :P

Even if I was popular enough to be elected (I doubt I would be), my sanity isn't worth a slight CV and ego boost hahaha

- Complete two essays
- Watch some footy
- Try and progress a bit further in Fallout.

Apart from that, not much. I don't consider the mid-sem break to be an actual break anymore. I've got placement in a few weeks too so I guess i'll be relearning some content I haven't touched on for quite a while.

I've kinda delayed doing all of my assignments until now because I needed to re adjust to a new university and a different discipline (compared to IT where there are zero essays).

Just came back from Good Friday Appeal today with a few friends (the lines for Batman vs. Superman at MC today were pretty long as people waited at ABC LOL)

But yeah probably revising for mid-sems and meeting up with others who don't go to Monash! :)
