Awesome. Really interesting. Does existing literature have much to say about this?
Progesterone element of the pills downstream turns into several different neurohormones/neurosteroids that affect certain receptors (GABA, etc) that may affect mood. So, its not nearly as a weird link as it sounds when you trace down the lineage. We have some existing evidence that women on P only pill tend to have more depressive symptoms, bit more unclear for the combined pill (we think estrogen might balance out the depressive effects of P).
Still waiting on ethics but that should be ready in a week. I've had a lot of setbacks so i'm just keen to start. Another problem is that uni is basically finished til August. I planned to recruit around campus (a lot of people in a small space, willing participants, generally healthy and are able to do things during business days).
People have suggested various thing, say handing out flyers on the street but thats got a really bad time spent/people recruited ratio. For an hour spent doing that, i might get one willing and eligible person if im lucky. Whereas if i did something similar around campus, i'm sure i'd get way more.
I could be a dick and hand them out at Caulfield after exams finish or something but who would really want to spend an hour or two of their day doing stuff like that during SWOTVAC? So yeah...thats a problem to solve haha.
My favourite part of Honours thus far is the lack of exams. So good.
We have exams 3:. We've got to critique scientific papers and rewrite them. It's open book and you get to talk to your classmates after reading time (but before you see the questions) so its not super intense i guess.
