Jaffy question: What are these 'elections'?
Basically what Sine said - election of candidates to fill positions in the MSA. We had some discussion about last year's elections here.

In terms of why a lot of people seem to hate the particular week that elections are run - have ever been to a polling booth for local/state/federal elections (they're sometimes held at a local school), and seen people handing out flyers telling you vote for certain parties? Now, imagine that happening at campus centre, except there's a person standing around every corner, and instead of just handing you their flyer, they'll try to engage you in conversation. Once you attract one, you'll get 2-3 others from other parties flocking to you trying to win your vote. That's what election week was like last year.   ::)

How is everyone (especially JAFFYs ;) ) feeling about the first day/week/semester of university? :P

Can't wait to get started.  I'm excited and not yet apprehensive.

I saw the sun rise on the train this morning which seemed quite symbolic - a new day of learning :)

Election week will be a wake up call to people claiming resting bitch face. Sorry, people, but if you’re getting approached, that RBF needs work.

The powers of my RBF are confirmed then, I didn't get targeted. Finally, an achievement I can be proud of

How was everyone's first day? Lecture theatres were chock full of people, but I expect attendance to die down starting next week. :P

I also got to have a class in the new building - more particularly, the "Learning in the Round" room. Quite an interesting concept.

P.S. Please don't push the revolving doors in the Menzies building :)

I reckon pushing them actually makes no difference - it's when you get too close to the back that problems arise!

It seems like Monash has made some staff cuts and are really pushing a lot more independent learning. From the convoluted info I got today it sounds like sometimes for CBL we'll only have our facilitator there for an hour out of the hour and a half...not sure whether this is true or not as of yet.

Overall, not a bad day :) Not *too* much content today, but I'm really gonna have to get on figuring out the best method of independent learning this semester and there seems to be a lot of content coming up later this semester.

That might be it (although I still think pushing the front stops it as well :P)! There were a few times I saw about 4 people trying to fit into one section. It's doable, but only with proper coordination :P

Interesting that you say that. Kind of falls back to the discussion we had about the cuts from 3 lectures to 2 for some units, with the lost lecture being turned into an online directed learning activity in some cases (from my experience anyway).

Does ‘no pushing door rule’ only apply to the menzies revolving doors? (Jaffy here  :P ) Because, I had a lecture in the new building infront of the bus bay, and the older students were comfortably pushing the (revolving) doors.

Also, what do you have loaded in the background on ur device during lectures? What apps/programs on your device do you use (if u use any) during lectures? :)

I'm not sure on any of the funky stuff with the new buildings but as far as I know it's just Menzies with the temperamental revolving doors.

In lectures, I take notes with OneNote and I usually have the lecture notes open (so I do a split screen). Depends on the course and lecture, really.
I might also keep a Google tab open in case I need to quickly check something but having the internet open leads to the temptation of Facebook haha.
Really, there's no magical formula - you've just got to find what works for you. :)

Did you reply "...in the centre...of the campus..."?

The new buildings revolving doors don't seem to stall as frequently at least from my experience so pushing probably not requried :P

I usually have the lect notes and either annotate them or just open up a word document or onenote just to jot down anything important the lecturer says.
