Hi,
I was just wondering if there was anyone who has done/is doing medicine at Monash who I could message and would be willing to answer some (random) questions for me?? They're just questions regarding the course etc, I've had trouble finding relevant/recent answers to my questions while searching forums, even though most of them are pretty generic.
Thanks !!!

Why not ask them here on the forums? :)

Hey everyone,

Hope your exams are going well. Just a PTV reminder that there will be no trains running between Flinders Street and Westall stations (including Caulfield station) on Monday 11th June (Queen's Birthday public holiday). The Frankston line will also be affected. If you plan on travelling to uni from the city, be sure to leave enough time to get to your exams. Replacement buses will be departing from the Arts Centre (near Flinders Street Station - across the Yarra River). You may also want to consider taking a tram to Caulfield Racecourse (~40-50 mins). It's also a public holiday, so public transport will also be running to a Saturday timetable (i.e. will be less frequent). More info here.

Good luck with the rest of your exams  :)

Hi, I'm a year 12 student and this is (I think) the first post I've done on a uni forum (:
Basically, i still don't know exactly what I want to do next year and I'm hoping by asking some random questions I can get a better idea!!
So I've been considering medicine for a while now and my main hesitations have been related to just not being smart enough or dedicated enough ::)
Ok, some questions;
1. Is the cohort really competitive? Is there any reason for someone like me who hasn't been dreaming of med since they were 12 to feel intimidated and incompetent???
2. How many contact hours are there / what's the schedule like?
3. Is the workload and are the expectations really intense?? I know this is subjective but as as someone who has been working pretty hard this year, I want to know if i'm facing another few years of the same thing or if there's more opportunity to ... live??? i.e.; is having a part time job while doing the course manageable etc?
4. Is the course interesting?? (Yes subjective. Just want to know if people enjoy it)
5. What is employment like after the course? What realistic opportunities are there? (I know there's plenty. But anything in particular that you've found??

If anyone feels prepared to answer these, thanks so much!!! It's not that I'm not passionate about the content of the course or the possible careers, it's more self-doubt (some of this based on lack of info) that is making me hesitant (:

I was like you and hesistant about how I would like everything in medicine - how the cohort would be and felt slightly out of my depth with people saying how since they were teeny tiny they had been interested in med. Sorry for long response

First of all - our cohort is one giant meme fest group. Everyone shares notes, memes and we are not competitive really because we are in med so what is there to be compete for? This has been my experience at least - it is quite a pleasant change from vce.

i am in uni everyday from eith 9-5/6 or 8-5/6 except for Wed ( our day off - but you will have placements on Wed. However I go to pretty much all lectures which you don't have to.

The faculty is very supportive, I have never felt alone and there is huge emphasis on this. We have had dedicated mindfulness sessions and meditation etc. We even do kahoots!!! The faculty tries to do everything to get us to know things because I guess they understand that we need to be competent doctors.

Workload - lots of content, need to dedicate time to learning, but things link up and if you did bio you should be good. The exam tests the fundamentals, they are not out to trick you and the Year Twos help with practice material and hold little revisions sessions throughout the year and revision lectures becasue they are amazing.

I easily fit in part time work only about5-6 hrs max though, and go out with my friends with no guilt whatsoever.

Employment wise you can do quite a bit - go into army, lots of choice of specialities, however getting more competitive to secure internships and entrance into speciality colleges.

Please PM if any more q.s. - I wasn't sure in Yr 12 whether I should keep trying to get into med but so glad I did - even though I am naturally humanities based I love the content which you know is actually going to be useful. I love learning  from the actors who pretend to patients and the human side of things the most too

Hey Everyone,

Might be a long shot, but is there any way to find out exam results earlier than Sunday (SMS Text results) ?

As far as I know, unless they're published on Moodle (unlikely), I don't think so, I'm afraid!

Also what's everyone's thoughts of the new login page? I'm not a fan of it myself, haha. :)

Yeah the new login's a bit of a pain tbh. It never remembers my full login details, so it takes longer to log back in again and it slows down the time for me to get into Moodle. Even with the added security protection, I'm not a fan of it as I have to wait longer to get into every additional website on the Monash servers.

Is the unit enrolment trick on WES a valid way to check whether or not you passed ?  :-\

I probably would not rely on that as a way to check. There are too many anecdotes for it both working and not working, not to mention the fact that different units may have slightly different enrollment options. It's also not a confirmed method to check, so any conclusion you make using this method may not even be correct. I understand you may be anxious about finding out whether you have passed a unit, but there's only a day or two to go, so hang in there, and good luck! :)

It normally takes me around 2hrs to be able to enrol, but I'd probably say that there's some delays due to it being results day for units to appear in allocate for you to select classes for. Hopefully, by the end of the day today you should be able to select classes to enrol into on allocate for that subject.

Yep 3 of mine are up, but they're all showing last sem or last year's content, with one only showing one folder with nothing in it currently

Is anyone able to access the booklists for their units?
