Thanks for replying guys! I'll seek out a course counsellor and/or ask.monash it :)
Hey, welcome to ATAR Notes. :) Your I.T. degree aside, I hope you've enjoyed the transition to uni thus far!

Good questions. There will be people here who have more appropriate insights than I do (I never transferred degrees), but what I will say is it's probably worth speaking to your faculty about this. Science Student Services would be a good place to start.

Are you regretting I.T. based solely on the first couple of weeks? What made you want to study it in the first place?
I chose to study the I.T degree because I thought it would be interesting and fun, however I'm regretting as it wasn't what I'd thought it would be  :(
And thanks! Transition to uni has been fun, I now understand that having friends in uni makes it fun :)

Also, there is this one unit that I'd like to drop but I'm not sure if it's a compulsory subject as part of the double degree. It is FIT1047 (my course map: http://www.monash.edu/pubs/handbooks/maps/map-c2003.pdf) and i'm finding it difficult (also, i'm the only girl in a lab of 15 people :( ) and am unsure if I can drop the unit or not.

I don't think that you are locked into that unit. You should be able to unenrol from FIT1047 on WES (the same way you enrolled in your units in the first place), and change to another unit :) If there's no option to unenrol, submit a request of ask.monash and they should be able to unenrol you from that unit.

As a side note: the last day to add units is March 9, and the last day to unenrol from units is March 31 (census date).

Not bad tbh, could've been better, but glad the annual trivia night on campus included Horses and Rasputin this year instead of songs nobody's heard of

Don't know if this is just a jaffy thing or what but I feel like I am already behind in my work lol. A lot of information to take in at once (and learning how each different units' moodle page works is a pain), but I've got literally hundreds of pages of pre-reading prescribed for this weekend. We are meant to have read through 4 chapters of the physics textbook by the end of this week (120 pages), but after also factoring in the workload from 3 other units, I simply just haven't had the time.

definitely not just a jaffy thing but it's supposed to be more mangable once you have gone through that and suffered a few times already ;)

ahh yes pre-reading most people don't really do it (apart from super keen JAFFYs) LOL, although going through the textbook and other external resources gets more important the further you get into your degree. The times I have been motivated enough to do so it can be very helpful going into a lecture already having somewhat of an idea but definitely if you don't find it useful or feasible don't worry too much.

Yeah physics pre-reading is hell. They still expect us to pre-read for lectures in 2nd and 3rd year haha. The pre-lecture quizzes are annoying as well.

I feel like a really been a victim of 'active learning' so far this year haha. My theoretical physics lecturer just plain refuses to lecture us and wants us to ask  questions about the lecture content, which he then painfully tries to answer. If someone does ask something, he rambles on for about 20-30 minutes about the topic without actually answering the question. Contemporary physics is held in the PACE labs so its like 1st year all over again. And my diff geo lecturer hasn't taught us anything at all yet. He just gives us worksheets to do for the hour, without any context for the content.

what unit is this, are they compulsory?

Whenever I've needed to use MARS for a "quiz" it's really just been a throwaway and they really don't care whether you answer them or not. Not sure if this is the case for you.

It's for FIT1051 and it is compulsory :)

You've got a couple of mins from when Marc puts them up on the screen until he takes them down. I don't think they're compulsory though, as only the in-lecture quizzes done on Moodle are compulsory from when I did it. I'll check the unit guide and let you know, but don't stress if you don't get to them in time as I always missed out on the questions occasionally.

And yeah as Sine has said they're definitely a throwaway as you don't have to worry that much about them, for that unit the consultations and getting the labs done are key.

EDIT: Just checked don't worry looks like unit guide is still the same, so yeah MARS stuff is fine I can send you the questions if you need

I'd recommend consulting the unit in question's unit guide to see if they're compulsory; I had a few last year, and I think they were recorded, if that helps! :)

Didn't actually look inside, but at the end of last year there was a cafe of sorts and an asian takeout (12 dumplings for $9.50 anyone?). Apparently there used to be a kebab shop? :o
Update: I went to check today and the prices went up by $1-2 :(
got it yesterday and there wasn't any price increase (still $9.5)  :D

Oh really? Could've sworn the price board said $11-12 haha. It was a quick glance so I must've misread :P I guess that's good news then!
