WTF I had a workshop for two hours at 8am in g24 but it was changed to g18 and nobody was there and I waited for like 30 minutes. This is starting to piss me off

Are workshops and tutorials like not on the first week? My tutorial earlier in the week wasn't on and started next week. My workshop today there was a no show even though the first week timetable had it in (like the first tutorial of the week) whilst my other workshop today isn't on this weeks timetable and my last tutorial of today is on the timetable.

Meanwhile, I have now been at the station for an hour. My first lecture is happening now, and I will probably barely make it to my second. Stupid Pakky line. >.>

I think I've tried every coffee place on campus and I don't have a huge preference. If you have the time, then feel free to source the finest coffee you can, but if you're between classes or running late, it shouldn't make too much of a difference.

For this reason, I often get coffee from the corner of Meeting Point (named Coffee Point, I think, which would be apposite) simply because the lines are short to non-existent.

Have you been to the cafe on the ground floor of the New Horizons building? I think it's called Saporo, according to some eng postgrads I know their coffee and food is pretty good (though I can't vouch for it myself). Add it to your list!

check the timetable on allocate+ and see what dates it says in fine print at the bottom of each allocation. if it says the class was on this week, then 90% it was on, otherwise they would tell you.

the timetable in my.monash has been stuffing up apparently and they say to check allocate+ for the time being only. so that may be your issue?

The number of people on the Caulfield <-> Clayton shuttlebus is too damn high

depends what time of day. I've found at lunchtime it's the busiest. perhaps some have classes in the morning at one campus and in the afternoon at another? or people are just late risers? (latter is probably the case most of the time lol). maybe I'll see you one day on the shuttle, I take it twice a day pretty much, I'm the guy with the overfilled backpack with stuff spilling out when I open it (hopefully not for much longer though - I'm just figuring out how often I need textbooks with me right now ahah).

The answer to that is a very simple you never need textbooks.

The shuttle takes about 15-25 minutes (usually close to 25 around the peakhour(s) I found, sometimes as low as 15 during the middle of the day). It also tends to be rather packed around peakhour, so you're better off getting in line early if you don't want to be left standing up for 20mins as you cruise past Chaddy.

15-25 mins clayton-caulfield. 30-50 minutes clayton-peninsula/berwick.
On the caulfield-clayton I haven't yet had a journey take longer than 20 minutes. it's really quick and easy. just have your student ID out to show the driver as you board so you don't hold up the line. the most annoying thing is when people start going through their bag and hold up the 20 people behind them. to go clayton-caulfield and return would be 1 hour at the most, bar a serious unexpected delay (e.g. break down of bus)

if you want someone to go with if you want to try it feel free to let me know what time you plan and I'll let you know if it's a time I normally take.

But I actually really want to take this one day..

You may have to for exams. :P

For those surprised - yes, a lot of exams are held at Caulfield (the racecourse, to be precise - however, if Clayton is easier for you to get to [or in my case, cheaper], the shuttle bus is a valuable resource, since the racecourse and uni are practically next door)

just have your student ID out to show the driver as you board so you don't hold up the line.

I have never had one of those bus drivers check for my ID. O.o I have had one yell at me for sitting down, though...

Super confused with readings. Am I supposed to be taking notes of the whole chapter as I read it? I don't really know what to take notes on exactly as there is no set "study design". Also what content is examinable?

.. confused jaffy life....

there is a study design, it's called unit guide. it may not include everything that will be on the exam, but it largely covers the content.

assume everything is examinable (even comments made by the lecturer under their breath) unless your lecturer/tute etc. tells you otherwise. the first lecture should have information on the assessments and what weeks of content are relevant to them. maybe review the slides from the first lecture.

Personally, I read first and highlight/notate etc. and then write notes on the second reading (some is so complicated for first years a second reading can help to comprehend it all), and then I guess before exams I'll do a third reading.

I have never had one of those bus drivers check for my ID. O.o I have had one yell at me for sitting down, though...

hmm, every time they check when I go on. maybe they 'cracked down' this year on it?

Tbh it's always shocking and it has been since mid-2013. Like standing-room only is fair enough but to cram people in like sardines is a bit much. There was a campaign last year for another shuttle bus that gathered some traction with the student body but nothing came of it. Thanks Monash.

And yeah, maybe you will see me on the shuttle! Look for the guy who doesn't really want to be there hahahaha

(oh wait that's pretty much everyone :P)

As above, 20ish-25 minutes each way for the Caulfield-Clayton route. It's free, Monash-student exclusive and very reliable so it's actually a great option for people who need to get between campuses... but it is literally breathing room only (if that) in busy periods. Usually it thins out over semester as people realise they don't need to come into uni as much, but not to the extent where everyone gets a seat.

It's really busy throughout the day though, as it's catering for people who have classes at both unis but also people who live in Caulfield (or nearby) or Clayton (or nearby) respectively. The only time I've ever seen it fairly empty (as in, seat are available) is before 8am and after 6pm.

hmm, every time they check when I go on. maybe they 'cracked down' this year on it?

I mean, they "check" insofar as you flash a student ID at them as you step on the bus. A lot of people don't even bother with that when it's especially busy, because the driver isn't exactly keen on slowing everything down to check everyone.

I still much prefer carpooling with mates over the bus any day and any time of the day.

Thankyou so much ! I don't think I'll be able to try this for a while since I don't have breaks longer than an hour :'(

Are you for real..? Why are exams held there ? Also on the subject of exams..are they held in like special halls or something or is it just a standard lecture theatre ?
