there is a study design, it's called unit guide. it may not include everything that will be on the exam, but it largely covers the content.

assume everything is examinable (even comments made by the lecturer under their breath) unless your lecturer/tute etc. tells you otherwise. the first lecture should have information on the assessments and what weeks of content are relevant to them. maybe review the slides from the first lecture.

Personally, I read first and highlight/notate etc. and then write notes on the second reading (some is so complicated for first years a second reading can help to comprehend it all), and then I guess before exams I'll do a third reading.

Oh okay cool thanks a bunch!

The other option to get from Caulfield --> Clayton without shuttle bus is to get from Caulfield station to Huntingdale. Takes literally 10 minutes then 601. Could be a better option since you guys said shuttle buses fill up quick, no breathing space etc. Also, train comes every 10 minutes from 9am to 4pm on a 2, so 02,12,22,32,42,52.

The Huntingdale bus is probably worse. There was a line longer than the bus to get in the bus. A l i n e.

This only happens at peak times (At Huntingdale station, about 9-10/11, at Clayton, ~3-5?). One reason why I tend to hang around at uni longer if if I'm kept there until 3 or longer, ceebs waiting in line. :P (granted, this line gets smaller as semester goes on, because less people start showing up, people start realising there's no point rushing to the bus because of the line and so might stop along the way to do something first and then get the bus, etc.)

The shuttle never gets any better, though. And is a lot less frequent than the Huntingdale bus (plus, unknowledgable JAFFYs don't realise you can take the 900 to Caulfield, 630 or the Mid-Brighton bus to get to Huntingdale/Clayton stations, and those buses tend to be very not-crowded as a result. :P Me and a friend caught the 630 yesterday for this exact reason). So yeah, Huntingdale is a better option if your pushed for time, but the shuttle is better if you're not and don't get claustrophobic (because that one's FREE~)

Tbh it's always shocking and it has been since mid-2013. Like standing-room only is fair enough but to cram people in like sardines is a bit much. There was a campaign last year for another shuttle bus that gathered some traction with the student body but nothing came of it. Thanks Monash.

And yeah, maybe you will see me on the shuttle! Look for the guy who doesn't really want to be there hahahaha

(oh wait that's pretty much everyone :P)

As above, 20ish-25 minutes each way for the Caulfield-Clayton route. It's free, Monash-student exclusive and very reliable so it's actually a great option for people who need to get between campuses... but it is literally breathing room only (if that) in busy periods. Usually it thins out over semester as people realise they don't need to come into uni as much, but not to the extent where everyone gets a seat.

It's really busy throughout the day though, as it's catering for people who have classes at both unis but also people who live in Caulfield (or nearby) or Clayton (or nearby) respectively. The only time I've ever seen it fairly empty (as in, seat are available) is before 8am and after 6pm.

I mean, they "check" insofar as you flash a student ID at them as you step on the bus. A lot of people don't even bother with that when it's especially busy, because the driver isn't exactly keen on slowing everything down to check everyone.

I still much prefer carpooling with mates over the bus any day and any time of the day.

There are two shuttles. One is all seating and one has standing room. They go every 16 mins so there's two going back and forth. I've never been on any which I would say is grossly overfilled. Maybe I'm lucky.

The two shuttles that run in opposite direction on the Clayton/Caulfield route are the same model of bus (both seating+standing), the smaller seating-only one is just a back-up for when one of the main ones breaks down. Mind you, the time between busses last year was 25 mins so if they've cut it down to 17 mins per pick-up then there could very well be a third bus I'm not aware of on that route.

Regardless, I'm not a fan of public transport even when it's practically empty. When it's shuttle-bus-level full... :-X

Yes, there actually is an additional Clayton-Caulfield shuttle bus this year.

Read here: "In 2015, three buses will operate between the Clayton and Caulfield campuses between 8am and 6pm leaving approximately every 17 minutes for the 15–25 minute journey, depending on traffic."

Are you for real..? Why are exams held there ? Also on the subject of exams..are they held in like special halls or something or is it just a standard lecture theatre ?

Capacity. Some units are particularly large, so fitting all students into a lecture theatre or two isn't really feasible. The vast majority of exams are held at the Caulfield Racecourse, which is, as mentioned, directly opposite the Caulfield campus. There are a few different rooms there, so where you sit your exam depends on your unit. Some exams are conducted in very big rooms; others in smaller rooms.

However, some units decide to have all assessment conducted within the semester. So to get around having an exam during the official exam period, they have a 'test' or something similar during Week 12. I've had a couple of these units, and those assessments tend to just be conducted in the usual lecture theatre.

Caulfield campus isn't too bad. I've never had a class there, but all of my exams bar about two have been at the Racecourse. It's easy to get to via public transport, there are good facilities within close proximity, and I quite like the general atmosphere there.

I've read that the libraries on the Clayton campus don't open until 8am - other than cafés, does anyone know of any indoor areas where we can sit and study before then?
