What are the easiest Monash first year units? Preferably one without an exam hahaha

picking a unit just because it is supposed to be 'easy', and on that basis alone, is a recipe for disaster. all first year units are relatively easy too.

Gotta disagree with you on a couple of points there.

Picking a unit just because it's supposed to be easy isn't necessarily a bad thing; in fact it's almost universal if you're trying to bump up GPA/WAM, especially for those in the latter stages of their course. It's only sometimes a problem (and only for some people) if it's an easy unit but you know you're going to hate it, and therefore put no effort in because fuck it.

Also, not all first year units are relatively easy. For example, BMS1052 is pretty bloody tricky and definitely comparable to second-year biomed and third-year science units. MTH1030/1035 is notorious for being a bastard of a unit. According to several engineering students I know, ENG1091 was and continues to be a little bit of a fucking nightmare.

I would like a unit in BusEco or Arts. I've looked at ATS1297 but don't know if it's worth taking since I don't like English and writing but i'd think it'd be helpful for assignments that involve essays??

A lot of people do basic commerce units (Principles of Accounting and Finance, or micro/macroeconomic etc. etc.), or marketing or something like that. They're probably not going to be a breeze if you don't put in the effort, but that goes for most units.

Arts is very very broad; did you have a specific area of study in mind (like, philosophy, a language, politics/international relations etc.)? If you're after a (reportedly) piss-easy unit, and you fulfil the requirements, apparently ATS2743 is rather easy.

You've been at uni for like a week like me you wouldn't know. I'm pretty sure like 90% of students would also pick a unit because it is easy and that most definitely isn't a recipe for disaster.

Has anyone been to Moonlight Cinema?

On another note, are you allowed to walk around on campus having an alcoholic drink? During spare periods I tend to walk around a lot and a carona between lectures would be fun.

Apparently the Moonlight Cinema has been put off for yet another week.
I filled a drink bottle up of booze for my Thursday lectures.

that's what I was getting at.

I've received advice from someone I trust, I stand by what I said.

You'd need a 75+ average to be considered, but given the demand for the course (for example, my second-year biomed physiology class has 430-odd people, and the first-year intake is even larger) you'd need above 80 realistically. Even then there's no guarantee that there will be a place as the biomed course has pretty strict associated enrolment limits. However, I do know several people who've managed this transfer so it's worth a shot anyway.

Theoretically you could credit BIO1011 and BIO1022 for BMS1021, but in order to be eligible for the 50 guaranteed monash postgrad med places you need to complete every single BMS unit. As a result of this, you probably won't be able to carry credit over for your bio units. CHM1011 and CHM1022 don't have equivalent units in biomed, so they can't be cross-credited.

However, if you've scored well in these units and wish to keep them on your record for GPA/WAM reasons, it's potentially possible to credit the chemistry units (not BIO as they are prohibited by BMS1021) as electives in biomed. Note, however, that this means you won't have as many elective places later on in your degree.

When typing up notes, does anyone have a strategy for picking out relevant information from the bulky textbook, slides, youtube videos etc. to make a balance between not having too much info, but not too little either?

Hey Guys,

I'm pretty interested in doing Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Engineering at Monash. What sort of areas can you work in with these degrees and how is the general feel of the double. Any advice from anyone who has done or is currently doing it would be great :)

Cheers

those are very broad questions. you may get better answers in you explain what areas of commerce/eng you are interested in and thus what you are looking for?

I can tell you a double degree is really no different from a single degree, all it means is that you're doing units from different faculties at once (which you would likely do in a single degree due to electives anyway) and you would be doing more semesters in total than someone doing the single.

Chasej, I am looking towards civil or something I.T related and combining it with the commerce degree, in which i want to major in management (somewhere in that area)

I was wondering the same thing... I think it comes down to personal preference thus I am experimenting myself with different note taking techniques in the first week or two of uni.
Do it yourself and stick to the strategy that works best for you.

Typing notes works best for me, however I just want to know if I'm including irrelevant information.
Is everything in the textbook examinable?
For instance, in one of my subjects we went from Chapter 1 straight to Chapter 3 without acknowledging Chapter 2. Are we meant to take notes on Chapter 2 in our own time? Or is Chapter 2 not useful to what we need to learn.

Thanks again.
