who wants to guess what degree i'm doing

Definitely one with labs.
(ngl, I honestly reckon the simple fact of "labs" and their contact hour doubling power is what makes so many science and eng kids think that arts students are lazy/their degrees are useless...)

Hey guys, got any tips for adjusting to uni life/making friends? Cause I'm struggling :( Everyone is really nice at uni, but I can't seem to click with anyone and all my friends are at different uni's (except one). I've met some nice people in lectures, but can't really connect with anyone in tutes....

(p.s if it wasn't obvious I'm a first year student)
I'm not finding it too hard to meet people but i'm not a good conversationalist if you know what i mean. There are some awkward silences when i talk to new people and my biggest problem is not being able to get on the "friends" level . i really admire people who just seem to click straight away and are able to talk about things outside of uni, can't really seem to do it well, i also think it helps if you'll got mutual friends to talk about? can a people's person help us out???

Hey guys, got any tips for adjusting to uni life/making friends? Cause I'm struggling :( Everyone is really nice at uni, but I can't seem to click with anyone and all my friends are at different uni's (except one). I've met some nice people in lectures, but can't really connect with anyone in tutes....

I think it is honestly the luck of the draw. I've only been to two unit tutorials (skipped one and just enrolled in one today) and one of them I've been to twice and the other I've been to once. The twice one which was sociology is pretty bad for me. I dress pretty well all the time and at uni so to girls I'm quite intimidating and cop stares until I meet their eyes. I forced myself (shallow me :) ) to sit next to the prettiest girl in my tutorial and that just ended up being awkward because the other people on the table wouldn't stop talking and ignored my existence until halfway through the tutorial when they were all struggling and my answer to the question killed it :) The first time I walked in late and sat next to a 23ish year old guy who told me he was quite conservative and shy and small talk was just an absolute bullet to the stomach. I can already tell this tutorial is going to be living hell but I find it somewhat funny when I'm there.

My other tutorial was good. I'm not sure if friends will come out of it but it was just a nice class that I enjoyed. We were forced to choose groups and as I once again rocked up late I sat on the closest table to the door with two quite shy people, a really nice girl and a mad guy that I ended up meeting later that night at a party. That is pretty much my experience with tutorials. Lectures I have either sat alone or with someone I already knew for the very few lectures I've been to.

FYI, I am painfully terrible at conversing with randoms. Small talk kills me and it kills me to watch it. The only real thing I've clicked over with regards to mutual interests is partying.

I honestly think friends will be made over time from your tutorials, clubs or sports you play. Make the effort to play a sport and you'll click with someone over the shared interest. I'm going to be starting footy pretty soon and I'm hoping that will be great :)

Definitely a good idea to make friends by joining clubs. What I found with making friends in tutes is that you're often 'friends' with them for the semester you're in the tutes together and then you slowly lose touch. They're more like acquaintances really. I mean, you can click straight away with some of them, especially if you see them in other tutes, lectures, etc. but it depends I guess. Whereas clubs are more of a social thing where you get to see each other at the club's events, etc. The thing you usually have in common is an interest outside of studies which makes it a lot easier to get to know other people.  A few of my good friends are those that I've made the effort to keep in touch with outside of our tutes/lectures, but most of my good friends are those I've met through the clubs I'm a part of.

Can confirm, I went laser tagging for Christmas last year, and the people in attendance were friends I made through clubs, not lectures/tutes/labs.

Just be crazy honest with everyone. If you're awkward and trying to make friends, at the next awkward silence just say - unabashedly - "Man, I'm sooo shit with social situations (as you breathe out through your nose like you're laughing), I may as well be retarded. I'm super good at Minecraft tho so it sort of makes up for it, hey?"

They'll be so confused they'll have no chance to dislike you. That's how I make friends. Gotta get them on the backfoot before they realise you're insane. Then, when they do, it's too late.

Hey everyone, I kinda in a pickle atm in regards to my Oral Presentation for World Religions. The issue is that my tutor suggested that I read a particular journal article in order to help me out my assessment and that he said it was available on Moodle. I checked Moodle and it was not there. I contacted another tutor for the subject and she told me that the journal article my other tutor told me about is only available for staff and not students. If I decide to use the journal article, do you think I would get in trouble for it since I don't have the authorized access to journal article?. My assessment is due on next Wednesday and the consultation hours that my lecturer and tutor has falls on a Wednesday therefore I need to figure out what to do right now as I have not even started lol. What I should I do?. Btw, I already emailed both my lecturer and tutor with no reply. Thanks!

Today was amusing.

Got a lift from a friend to uni, but as we were about to get to Dandenong Rd/Princes Hwy, he got a flat tire. He parked in a side street and we sprinted for the bus. I got to Clayton about 10 mins late for my lab, and as I was about to walk in the building the evacuation alarm went off, and my entire lab class started to walk out. Firies were there for some reason, not sure what the whole thing was about because I didn't see/smell any smoke. Might just have been those nutters in the chemistry building doing some crazy shit again.

Went to my tutor to see if I was late: "No... technically". Epic success on my part. Our lab class spent the next 45 minutes (of a two hour lab) outside getting coffees/chatting etc.

If there is a god, it's a sympathetic one because that was the chillest Friday I've ever had at uni.

If there isn't one: GG chemistry department (maybe), you should fuck shit up more often!

My lecturer for ACC1000 said there are workshops next week.
I've managed to find the workshops for my other units, except ACC1000.
If someone who knows what they're doing can find it and link me, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks.
