24 hours is a far cry from 38-40 though. When I worked full time completing my Comp Sci degree the only times I went into uni were to hand in assignments ><

Needless to say that was my worst semester
I know... the implication being that if I'm dieing on 24 and just managing an Arts degree, doing Law subjects on 38-40 would be much worse.

So how does he do it? :O In fact, how does he manage to get to any lectures or tutorials at all if he is working full time?

There is no way someone can work full time (9-5 five days) and complete arts/law full time. It's just so patently false. There aren't enough hours in the week once you add up work+contact hours+plus studying+sleep.
He did. EDIT: He didn't work 9-5. He was a friend who tutored me just out of good will (leaving him a big payday when I scored so well in the subject at the end of year) and he did. So two hours every Saturday he was also tutoring me whilst working full-time and doing the double degree in the standard amount of years. He didn't go to lectures but did go to tutorials. But he's one of the most intelligent people I've met and a very, very hard worker. Since his first year of undergrad he was a full-time legal assistant. For all I know he could have acquired this job with nepotism and his employers were lenient and understanding or something. He was very busy though. All the time.

I'll be working (hopefully) 28 hours a week (no weekends or late nights or anything) as of next week alongside like 14 contact hours a week I think I have. For some reason I think this will somehow help me do better when it comes to studying … and I have to save up for my planned exchange to BRAZILLL. Sam Mitchell from Hawks goes on about the balance bringing out the best in all areas of life.

@ChaseJ
I have read through a few of the lectures and it is impossible for me to do this assignment and do well so I think I'm just not going to do it and apply for special consideration - I'd have like three weeks worth of medical certificates I could get them to print off. Are you ever able to be excused from an assessment and have other assessments carry more weighting? If I'm unwell from day one of joining a unit and can excuse myself for being sick and not be able to get a textbook then woo. Otherwise no biggie no law, doubt that'd happen anyway, just liked the opportunity.

This being on the assumption that said person IS actually working full time and is not just a blatant lie for whatever reason..

I have no reason to lie he just told me he did it and his LinkedIn page shows that he has been working full-time since then, has won multiple academic awards at Monash (esp. in law) and had quite a few leadership roles as well.

It's impossible. For one thing, absolutely no law firm would hire a first year university student so to speak. Work experience or something similar, possibly. But a full time job ? Completely out of the question. As for another, there's no way said person would be able to achieve "multiple academic awards" with such shit attendance levels..he'd have absolutely no clue what was going on in the course. Not to mention law is a pretty heavy load too..

Argh guys I'm still struggling to find a job :S Like I haven't tried many places - the conventional ones. Should I start asking friends etc to help me get into a job or should I keep looking for jobs myself?

Any recommendations for a job? I desperately need money haha....

Haha yeah Law + Arts workload is pretty stressful - I mean it's not impossible to work full time (although full time = 9 - 5 for five days) but that guy would basically be having no life whatosever tbh - like having to work the whole of Sundays. Like I am having troubles already and I am in first year - let alone third or fourth years when you have to do subjects like Corporate Law where the law is like 900 pages in itself lel.

MDMA, perhaps he didn't work full time? Like part time but near the hours of full time?

He was a legal assistant straight out of school with his 99.95. Nepotism could have been a factor in his employment but it doesn't change the fact he worked full-time. He constantly told me how busy he was when I would see him once a week. In SWOTVAC for his last semester of uni ever he was literally employed and worked a ridiculous amount. I don't really speak to him anymore because he's like 6 or so years older than me and has a life of his own but yeah.

He didn't attend lectures but he still watched them I'm assuming or at least read the power points. His work ethic was something to aspire to. With regards to academic awards, I don't really want to link his LinkedIn because that is a bit stalkerish but for example, he has 'Winner of the Witness Examination Competition sponsored by Herbert Smith Freehills' and 'Monash Law Scool Prize for International and Comparative Family Law' both achieved within a few months of each other alongside a dozen other awards … I don't know if these awards are good but yeah.

Argh guys I'm still struggling to find a job :S Like I haven't tried many places - the conventional ones. Should I start asking friends etc to help me get into a job or should I keep looking for jobs myself?
I have been accepted to work at McDonalds and start Tuesday. The only reason I am working there is for the hours as opposed to experience even though it is good experience. Before this, I was on Seek going to job interviews for anything that seemed prestigious without experience :P I went for a job interview for a consultation job that required no experience yet everyone else was 25+ with like 3-4 years of experience in quite specific industries like advertising. I also went to a job interview for being a bartender because I thought it would be cool and fun but i doesn't seem as reliable for an income as working somewhere like McDonalds.

I think you should for the first 6-9 months try work at somewhere like Maccas. Then when you have experience under your belt, go and try work at a cafe or get a job through your parents if you can like a lot of lucky people.

You tried the local paper, Careers Connect, volunteering (just for experience to get a proper job), improving the ol' resume, taking photos whenever you pass restaurants/ shops with ads and the job sites? They may be helpful.
Also, try to be a bit more active and perhaps you need to lower your standards (don't reject any openings). When you're in need of money, something is better than nothing.

Some possible jobs: be a tutor (check Tutor Finder - I can't remember who recommended this ages ago on here), the obvious big name retail websites (though they tend to go for younger students) and small shops near you that have ads.

Sorry for my recent spamming I'll disappear over the holiday break after this post :) So thanks in advance.

I was e-mailed back by tutor about my late assignment that was due on the 30th. His e-mail was great but it was lacking a little bit of clarity. I e-mailed him back asking if he could rephrase what he said but I don't expect him to reply until business hours so I'll ask here.

He advised me to try and obtain a textbook from the library or from a classmate but both are impossibilities. He also advised that I apply for special consideration. But he also told me to try do the assignment to reduce the risk of failing the unit as handing it in as after 10 days of being late it will not be accepted unless my special consideration is accepted. What I am asking is that if I am accepted for special consideration but handed in my assignment, am I able to just get rid of that assignment and redo it? If I'm getting special consideration so I can have some extra time to do the assignment I don't want to hand in the assignment within the 10-day period with it being a lot worse than what I could actually do with the materials.

If that doesn't make sense I'm happy to clarify.

Hehe guys let's not throw the word 'lie' about so easily.. negative descriptions of one's character is very hurtful.

I wish I could land a legal position :( Have fun at McDonalds! I had a really good time working there :)

Just keep trying guys. Definitely ask on Facebook/ask friends... And make sure you're applying everywhere... Including McDonald's. Because really, you don't want to be 25 with no experience because you "didn't want to work in fast food".

Ok guys haha I've already worked at Maccas (for 1 1/2 years throughout VCE) so I really don't want to go back + horrible experiences.

I really want to work at Woolies or Coles but they always never seem to have positions vacant? Anyone confirm? Do I just apply via. their website?

With regards to tutoring - lel I rejected like so many students because I thought tutoring would be too stressful :S Bad choice probably..
