You'll find that nothing in uni is really compulsory. Personally, I'd go just to meet people, but if it's really not your scene then don't bother.

Where do we get the dates/times for these things? I have no idea what is happening for me in O-Week...

Have you tried the Orientation ePlanner?

hey guys any opinions on 'easy' finance unit apart from bfc2140 and bfc2000 and international finance.

I am thinking of doing bfc3240

And do i need to do bfc2000 beforehand or can I just go straight into this unit?

If you ever want to find a unit's prerequisites just check on the handbook, all the info you need is there. I searched bfc3240 and it said BFC2140 is a prerequisite for it. https://www.monash.edu.au/pubs/handbooks/units/BFC3240.html

How compulsory is the compulsory faculty orientation? I have one and it lasts like 5 hours and apparently its like bbq and games.. and to be honest im not interested in that. Apart from the faculty orientation i do not have any course or unit compulsory events.

Its only just hitting me that I'm going to an entirely new place, with new people. I have no idea what I'm going to do... :'( :o

It might be shit at the start but I promise you it will get better and easier with time.

If ever you're on campus and you don't know what to do, hit me up or post in this thread and we can get coffee or whatever (on the assumption that I am also on campus haha).

Basically everybody will be in the same boat. :)

Oh thanks man. That is really awesome of you! Yeah. I'll definitely hit you up. Anyways...This is going to be me:

Standing around awkwardly watching people talk. I'll check my phone to make myself look busy, hoping someone will come over and start talking to me

Looks around and sees someone else doing the same thing. You can't fool me buddy

I spend the next 20 minutes thinking of a way to approach this person. I think of every possible outcome. I go through the whole conversation in my head; I practically rehearse it

eyy...I'm ready! Oh damn...where did they go!?

Most people are friendly, you will always make friends. I went to 4 different schools and 1 in south america.. trust me from personal experience you will always make friends. Take the initiative.

Some tips i found useful.
I remember the first day in year 11 at my new school, i walked in late and made a beeline to a table with another person on it. It is so awkward to sit by yourself.. because then its hard for others to approach you. If there's a spare seat in your class, ask if u can sit there, sometimes its best to sit next to the same sex, as it will send different signals in different scenarios. Dont ask the same old questions because it gets monotonous very quickly. And do not be afraid of speaking :)
This is how my first conversation in year 11 went:
I walk in late, i make a beeline to a guy who is sitting by himself.
Me: Hey dude, this table free?
Him: Yeah man
Me: Thanks dude, im darth_pepe
Him: Hi im him
Me: Shits hard to find man, lost on the first day lmao
Him: Yeah man.. im new too
Me: Ah cool, where were u from?
Him.. ah from ..

Trust me, the more you talk to people the easier it gets! It also helps with public speaking! Im at monash too btw so if u kick back in the library holler at me bro

edit:
I forgot to say:
If anyone plays dota2 or csgo, let me know we can go for a game

my law units have but only one of my arts units has. it's quite sporadic. and one law unit from last semester is still in mine. I assume it will work itself out during o-week.
