So uh, what do I use since I don't have an updated concession ? And I don't want to be fined either

Buy a daily or weekly myki for the meantime.

How was everyone's first days?

I had a ENG1003 lecture, which seemed pretty standard, and a ECC1000 tutorial. People in the tute asked me my opinion, and I had suddenly lost the ability to communicate. I was like, 'I agree' every single time.

So uh, what do I use since I don't have an updated concession ? And I don't want to be fined either

You can get one from my.monash. There will be a 'concession travel' link on the left sidebar.

I know that. I meant, what do I use as proof of concession until I get an updated one.

You can use a healthcare card, I don't think anything else is valid. I'd get on it as soon as possible, those 'inspectors' have been pretty ruthless lately.

All you have to do is print it (double sided, color) and give it to your nearest train station. It costs $9. Try to do it as soon as you can, because they NEVER let anyone go. Part of it is because they get some sort of commission from their fines (at least that's the word on the street).

I got fined $75 because my myki messed up...the guy showed no sympathy or anything (not that I expected him to feel sad for me or anything, he was just robotic about it), he just wanted me to pay up as fast as I could so he can move on to his next victim.

Sounds like they used bullying tactics. You don't have to pay the $75 on the spot. You can accept a fine and appeal it later if you know you are in the right. The $75 isn't a fine but rather a 'penalty fare' (which is actually illegal for a private company to charge hence the government does it).

The whole fining system is a statist sham - only the government could get away with it.

Does anyone know if I go early in the morning, like 7, will there be people at a station who can do it for me ?

Yes. My mum didn't want to drag it out (and risk paying like 4 times as much), so we just paid it. Yeah...I was wondering how a private company had the rights to fine people.

Speaking of inspectors, I caught the shuttle to Huntingdale Station on the way home today and there they were, waiting (as soon as we got off!). They'd be earning heaps of revenue.

Yep ticket inspectors are the worst. Fining full time students who actually touched on but didn't have their concession done in time.
It's kind of sad that their revenue comes off bullying students lmao, go and fine people who don't even own a myki in the first place.

In fairness, unless you're living under a rock in Antarctica, there's no excuse to not have a concession card by now. Not in favour of their mentality of targeting students (although it is safer for them than targeting drunkards or druggies who could attack them?), but if you don't have a card or haven't touched on, that's 100% on you.

MGC1010 not an open book exam anymore #rip  :(

My deepest condolences.

I'm sure there were students that really enjoyed management but for me personally, knowing that I would not be expected to memorise a single sentence for the Management exam was one of the few things that helped me get through that unit.

If you would like, I do have a summary document (roughly 100 pages) that I would be happy to send you for MGC1010 - not that you'll be able to print it and take it into the exam like I was.
