The amount of inspectors are crazy. My friend purposely got off half way down Princes Highway and walked to uni to avoid a fine HAHAHA.

In other news, I fell out with my best friend tonight and I'm so sad about it. And in even more irrelevant news, how do I know if tutes are compulsory if there's nothing written in the unit guide and my lecturers haven't told me ?

My deepest condolences.

I'm sure there were students that really enjoyed management but for me personally, knowing that I would not be expected to memorise a single sentence for the Management exam was one of the few things that helped me get through that unit.

If you would like, I do have a summary document (roughly 100 pages) that I would be happy to send you for MGC1010 - not that you'll be able to print it and take it into the exam like I was.
Haha it was the only textbook I had bought this semester too LOL but lucky I got it second hand!

And as bad as I feel, I'll take you up on that offer if you don't mind :')

Could I get a copy of that!? Cheers.

Oh sorry to hear that. No matter what the circumstances, it sucks when people drift apart, or fall out. If you wanna vent or something, my inbox is open.

Tutes aren't my thing because I don't really like working with other people, and i would much rather work alone at my own pace, but team work is something I need to improve on, so that's why I'm going. Also, it accounts for 10% of my grade so yeah. Go to your first session, and ask the tutor. My class (ECC1000) has a rule where you get 0% for tutorials if you attend less that 7.

Exactly the same with me. Given my undergrad discipline was computing, you can probably assume that I wasn't the only person in this situation so it worked out really well in the end. But now i'm doing teaching, I will never be able to hide again. Booo.

It gets better over time. As long as whoever you work with is friendly, helpful and willing to actually do work (and not be a freeloader), then you'll be fine! A tutorial doesn't automatically mean there will be teamwork involved. I've had quite a few subjects over my time which involve simply doing questions and having a discussion at the end (my type of tutorial). Depends on the subject really (and if you are genuinely interested/know the content being discussed).

I hope so. I'm not a freeloader by any means, but I seem like one because I struggle to vocalise my opinions if you know what I mean. I had this great idea in my micro tute, but I was just ignored. I need that 10%, so I'm going to have to get used to it. Also, team work seems to be a big thing in engineering, so there's that.

So 2 days officially at monash and there are things that I just need to express.

Firstly, the getting lost thing. I've been lost so many times and ik the simple answer to this is ask people. But you see, when I conjure up the courage to do so , the directions provided by people are often highly dubious (I'm not being ungrateful , I'm completely grateful for anyone that takes the time to reply to me. But maybe its just that I'm not good with directions) . So , I've decided to just act like ik where I'm going. It worked all day today. But you know whats awkward as hell tho, when your walking so confidently and realise that your walking in the wrong direction and then you kinda slowly turn around....k I know this is all in my head and its not like everyone is just looking at me.
Secondly , I'm never going to a lecture again. Well , that may be too definitive. But srs my first lecture was horrendous. It kinda freaked me out about uni lectures in general , but when I came home and read through the notes  it seemed so simple and straightforward..
Also , there are SOOOOO many biomed students. Looks like the whole of vic just heard that monash has made its MBBS exclusive to monash students. There's so many of us (app 200 more than last year) that lecturers are like repeating lectures for the first 4 weeks   :o
Oh and I met  a socialist. She came up to me and like words just ran out of her mouth and before I had the time to decipher what she was saying I had a flyer in my hand and was agreeing to meet her and her 'comrades' for a meeting  :o

How is MTeach going?

Honestly, you will get used to it. I can't remember the amount of times i've sat there in a tutorial room shaking and hoping that there was no teamwork or group tasks. I still get a bit anxious, but I did quite a few things in my final year of undergrad that really helped me develop my communication (I expected to get into a MTeach program this year so I was prepared for it, made sure I developed myself as much as possible so I was ready).

It's really a good confidence booster being in a tutorial and knowing what to do. Chances are, most of the class will have literally no idea what is going on (e.g. haven't done the pre-readings or assigned work beforehand) and that usually gives a bit of confidence in voicing your ideas and opinions. For example, today I was in one of my MTeach workshops which was for my computing teaching method, and it was probably the most confident i've been in a long time (since I understand the curriculum already and have a degree in this area). This workshop is combined as well meaning the students who already have a year under their belt for MTeach are able to answer my questions! That helps too.  8)

MTeach is good so far (even though i've only had two workshops and a lecture so far). Only problem for me is travel (which i'm assuming is quite common with alot of students), so I catch two trains & the 601. Also most of my classes are reallllyyy early in the morning (e.g. 8am start on Monday and 9am start on Tuesdays). Quite alot of essay-based assignments too, which I will most likely find challenging given my background (more hands-on rather than essay writing). Overall though, so far so good.

You're certainly right! While it might not be something you enjoy it's something you're going to have to life with and get used to (and you will, with time). It might depend on the stream of Engineering, but practically every engineering unit I have taken has involved doing at least one group project and it's rare you would work on something completely alone in the workforce.

I hope so. I'm not a freeloader by any means, but I seem like one because I struggle to vocalise my opinions if you know what I mean.
It's ok, many others are the same. I advise trying to find people that are similar to you, it rarely works if you have one quiet/anxious person among a group of confident or overbearing people. If you want to avoid coming across as a freeloader just do your best to know the material beforehand so that you can have more confidence conveying your ideas.

Thanks heaps, I appreciate that :)

I completely agree and that is why I hate group alignments so much. I would go but it's clashing with work so badly and irritatingly I have to miss the first one too because of work -.-

10% isn't too terrible. Can they fail you on lack of attendance ?

For the getting lost thing, get the app called lost on campus. It'll help you so much ! I saw quite a few jaffies using maps on their phone to get around today. Heaps of people in the same boat as you.

In fairness, unless you're living under a rock in Antarctica, there's no excuse to not have a concession card by now. Not in favour of their mentality of targeting students (although it is safer for them than targeting drunkards or druggies who could attack them?), but if you don't have a card or haven't touched on, that's 100% on you.
I'm cool, got mine done up this morning before heading to uni. Just don't like the way they target students, knowing there are unorganised people and people who don't have the luxury of time to get it done by today.  :-\

So what's up with MULO this year? All four of my subjects claim that the lectures are recorded in the unit guide, but only one of them has a page on MULO.

These subjects were all offered on MULO in first semester last year and worked fine.  :-X

Yes. My mum didn't want to drag it out (and risk paying like 4 times as much), so we just paid it. Yeah...I was wondering how a private company had the rights to fine people.
Yeh, I know a lot end up in that position and it sucks :( . The system is designed for people just to pay upfront with no ability to easily appeal as they know many myki fines won't hold up when actually placed under legal stand.
Regardless of how many times they warn you, private companies should only ever be able to recover the original ticket price and the cost of enforcement, which is much less than $75. A reasonable amount is $8 for a full day fair plus 10 or 20 $ for the inspector's time. And if someone scans their myki but forgets to update their concession, yet is still eligible for that concession it is arbitrary and unjust to fine that person. Fines should be a criminal sanction not a way of enforcing debt. In fairness, the system is completely unfair.
