Ugh. I hate group work. There's always that dude that thinks he is better than everyone else, and never lets anyone talk. Also, that other guy that never contributes, but always asks people about 'what they think'.

Anyone know about what I should do since the PASS classes were filled up? Are they worth it? It's kinda unfair that people miss out.

Hope the shuttle bus never closes though. Greatest initiative by Monash, second to the bullshit we're-environmentally-friendly-so-we're-increasing-the-price-of-parking-permits bullshit. If Monash is having trouble engaging with the SE suburbs then they should consider keeping the shuttle bus as a means of transport.

In any case I'm pretty sure it's not the 'higher ATAR requirement of Monash excluding potential students in the south east' but the fact that they've cut down on degrees/majors offered and made them more generalised. I'm sure there's no shortage of students reaching the 'higher ATAR requirement' of Monash but choose to go to Deakin, RMIT or ACU because of the more specialised and variety of degrees offered.
Don't blame the SE suburbs for not coming to the Campus, blame yourselves Monash coz you sold yourselves out.

They should at least run the service until students who currently study at Berwick finish up. Would be unfair if you enrolled at Berwick specifically for location over other unis/campuses and then you're told you need to travel out to Clayton at your own cost due to Monash's decision.

The ATAR for many Monash courses isn't that high anyway, it's an above average ATAR but it's not an exclusive club for elite students like some places overseas.

Regardless of fault it makes sense to consolidate courses to reduce running costs and thereby course fees (or at least slow the rate of increase), with the new teaching and learning buildings open in a few years Clayton could easily handle another 1800 students. Students would never see the decrease in costs or reduction in loss though because the government won't pass it on.

Not much you can do. They have a waiting list but I could never access it, maybe the fixed it this year. You really have to keep on refreshing allocate+ when they are due to open to get a place as they go very quickly. They aren't apart of the official course requirements so the faculty doesn't fund them enough to be available to all students. If it helps you feel better, I didn't find them so useful and stopped going after a few weeks for law (though they can't hurt).

It actually was I reckon. You'll have to do a lot of it when you graduate and go out into the workforce! I think this reflects the individual personality more than anything though. This is my 4th year of uni study now and I still freak out over groupwork/teamwork or even having to express an opinion or ideas verbally (perhaps this reflects my personality more than anything...)

Some people hate groupwork simply because of team members not pulling their weight, or for other social factors (like i've described above).

Interestingly enough, I've never met who has even a vague liking for any type of group work. I wonder why ?

Sorting out groups is such a hassle, and people are so damn flaky and don't do their work and it's so stressful to try to manage everything. I feel like it makes things even harder when you're the only one who cares about how you do. Makes me want to move to Antarctica and live with the damn polar bears >.<

This makes me feel kinda better. I'm not going to stay up trigger ready to snag a spot, I'll apply for the waiting list tomorrow. Why doesn't the uni fund them? Isn't it kinda unfair that some kids get it, and some don't? They messed up the email, and I only got it a few hours ago, but it opened this morning. Some people on the forums (moodle) are saying that they may open a new one if there is enough demand. I'm skeptical though, based on what you've said.

It's for ENG1002, and I was really hoping for some extra help.

I'm so exhausted and all I want to do is sleep. I find it difficult to get up in the morning and when I do, I turn off my alarm and fall back to sleep for a couple hours. I know this doesn't sound unusual but I've never felt this desire to just sleep for days. I'm starting to get a bit worried. Does this sound like burnout or stress or something I should look into further ?

Could be exhaustion (and I wouldn't blame you given how hot it's been recently on top of a week of study that was preceded by weeks of holidays!), but it could also be something worth looking into with a GP etc. I'd say give it another week and try to sleep a bit earlier and then see how you go

Early days for me haha! My Hons project this year is in neurology and radiology and I'm enjoying dipping my toe into each of those. Overall, I really enjoy patient contact so some sort of adult physician specialty seems likely, of which I enjoy neurology and also a few others such as rheumatology and oncology. I also haven't had good exposure to many of the others so it's likely things will change if you ask me again 5 years from now

In addition to physician training, also considering pursuing General Practice, I enjoyed the variety and long-term patient relationships that are formed when I did a rotation in it late last year. On the other hand, pretty much ruled out surgery (sooooo boring), psychiatry (I don't think I'm the right person for this, and I think it's a field that is heavily under-resourced atm), paediatrics (I can go into more detail by request), and obstetrics/gynaecology (gynaecology was the bane of my year last year...) Haven't made a call on ED or ICU, I'll get a better idea of how they work in coming years.

Oh okay. I can see that you've got a long road ahead of you (by looking at that medicine course map you posted some time ago), at least you know what you enjoy, and what you find boring. Could you tell me a bit more about surgery, the ICU and ED (ER?).

I've always been interested in working in an emergency department, it seems so exciting and exhilarating, but super stressful at the same time. But from what I understand, ED doctors don't really get to know their patients, and they are just a room number to them, unlike something like an ICU.
