Hey everyone. It's suddenly hit me that I'm not doing enough preparation for lectures and pre-lecture quizzes. I do everything that is prescribed, but it still isn't enough. All my quizzes and pracs have been at like 50%, but I have no idea how to increase them. Today in the computing class, the dude came over to me in the last minute, asked me to explain something, he didn't give me any time, and just gave me 50%.  :'( I had this goal of around an 70 - 80 average, but it looks like its all being slowly taken away by these online quizzes.

My subjects: ECC1000, ENG1090, ENG1002, ENG1003

Any tips?

For ENG1002 and ENG1003 just make the most of the multiple attempts. Since you have three shots, you should be able to get most of the marks - even if you don't understand the theory, if you can figure out how the numbers provided were manipulated to get the answer, you can still pull out more marks. I did that for ENG1002 when I had no clue what was going on for the electrical component - I just found some way of multiplying the numbers together then dividing them which gave the answer, so I repeated that in my next attempt lol.

Just bear in mind that the online quizzes don't actually make too much of a difference in comparison to the exam. The exams are like 50% while one quiz is like 1%, the quizzes definitely add up but you shouldn't stress heaps on them when a 2 hour exam is worth 50 times that amount. The quizzes are really just a small incentive to do a bit of study for each unit instead of completely leaving it and not doing anything at all.

If you have any specific questions about the first year ENG units feel free to message me!

How much do we have to say in our tutorials to get full marks for 'participating'?

For any subject that has participation marks, usually by attending and just doing the work (whether group activities, individual work etc.) gets you the percentage (unless it stipulates in the unit guide otherwise). "Participation" does not necessarily mean sharing.

For example, you could get the % by attending, or you may need to complete work each week to get it.. It really does depend on the unit though.

In my experience attendance is worth half the mark and actually doing something productive is the other half.

Hey everyone. Any idea where 10 Forecourt  (Clayton) is? I've looked everywhere online, but I can't find a thing.

I wanna check out this F1 simulator...

I'm fairly sure this is that empty courtyard bit in front of 10 north next to the den (think that's what it's called) café.

Is campus centre shops opened at normal trading hours tomorrow or is it shortened (since I don't exactly want to travel a long distance for food late in the day)...

That was a terrible explanation on my part HAHAHA. If you remember where they had all the sports stalls on orientation, it's that area.

Think it's the same as technically it's just another day for uni.

I don't mind it for the same reasons as you, but I think it's a pain for people who live far away, especially if they may have an exam the next morning or something too.
