Hi i want to transfer to commerce at monash. Doing arts at the moment. I am playing the numbers game just checking if im on the road to distinction average and i just realized that for some of my units, none of my marks are available. Is it usual to check grades and see nothing there at this stage of the semester? Not even my tutorial participation marks?

Do you mean on the 'Grades' tab in Moodle? Yeah, that's very common. I think it's a fairly scarcely used resource. But your marks should be available in each individual submission tab, or from wherever you usually get your marks.

Hooray.  No exams till August.  I mean, I had to invent this whole elaborate excuse to get out of them, and in hindsight I'm not sure it was really worth it , but it worked: I've now snagged an extra two months to study for the five exams I'm so totally unprepared for. ;)

So now I can laugh derisively at all you lot sitting 'em next week.  Good luck.

Nothing too hard about sitting down - I don't have to actually write on the exam, right? ;D

Haha. That's awesome for you! So do you go to semester two classes next semester? Or are those deferred?

I've got 4 days to study for 4 exams! Group projects really took up heaps of my time.

Linguistically fascinating.  Different brands of English use such different words: to sit (for) an exam, to deliver an exam, to give an exam, to take an exam, to write an exam. :P

Though, I dare you to try sitting down and not writing on your exam.  I dare you. ;)

I'm not sure; I haven't researched.  My guess is that I can't pass the units until I've done the exams so I won't have the prereqs for sem 2 units, and I'll defer for a semester or year.  But I'm actually clueless and haven't thought that far ahead.

Good luck on the intensive study though Orson!

Feels weird not doing exams - the first semester i haven't done any in my entire uni education so far. Although I finished a week ago, I'm bored already. :(

Eateries including Subway, Schnitz, Guzman y Gomez, Papparich, Sushi Sushi and Rolld are apparently coming to Monash Clayton, so this is probably where they are going.

Already knew about this :p I was looking for sweet Coles related gossip guys.

I didn't know this but apparently UoM has a supermarket inside? We need one, we cant let them win damn it.

I love Guzman y Gomez, why is this coming when my involvement on campus is winding down, scandalous. Schnitz isn't great (for veg options anyway, no idea about meat). Papa rich is pretty sweet/different. I wonder where they're all going to fit though? Just in the new campus center renovations/knockdowns they're doing? Gonna be fairly tight i reckon.

If it helps, i've done this a few times (like 3-4) and the exams are no more difficult i reckon. People say they're either accidentally or deliberately harder but its just one of those student rumors. I've never heard anyone who has actually done it say conclusively that they were far harder. It is a *different* exam but its definitely not harder at all, so, i wouldn't let this worry you :3.

That's more of a technical issue. You can definitely do units without prerequisites (i have). Long as you have enough background knowledge so you're not chucked in the deep end, any "prerequisites" are more at the discretion of the coordinator/faculty and definitely can be waved.

Yeah, it hadn't even occurred to me that they could be harder. :P

Dang.  That removes my excuse.  Now I actually have to decide whether to stick with uni next semester or not. >:(

Though I'm not sure if in a nursing-style course (with an inflexible layout rather than electives) you can defer by a semester and be half a year out for the rest of your course, i.e. doing sem 2 subjects when most of the cohort is doing next year's sem 1 subjects etc.  I guess you probably can because they'll always have part-timers, underloaders, repeaters, and deferrers so they'll offer each subject every semester, just you'll have a smaller cohort. (? I'm clueless)

EDIT: oh lol.  Just realised I'm almost certain to fail one of my units anyways.  It's a hurdle which I missed the first time, but they offered everyone a second chance, and I actually can't meet it this time either. :P  I could reasonably get special consideration this time except that missing it the first time was entirely my fault hahaha.

just wanted to ask,  is it normal for assessors to take marks off on spacing between commas on an assignment ? Is this common ? Like I didn't even know that spaces mattered.

What do you mean, exactly? Commas as part of referencing, or in general text? Do you have an example?

I just finished perfectly planning out my timetable for next semester using MUTTS. Apparently Allocate+ will just randomly allocate us to prevent clashes...

Anyone have any insight into this?

Yep - don't bother planning it. Have a rough idea, but be prepared to be flexible. When preference entry opens, check the %'s next to each class. That usually gives you an idea in regards to the likelihood of getting that particular preference. Higher % = less chance (as a higher % means that more students want that particular time).

I had my timetable all planned out as well, and let's just say the Allocate+ algorithm wasn't very friendly to me or my preferences.  ::)

everyone puts their preferences in and it uses an algorithm to give the most amount of people the best possible timetable as opposed to those who get in first getting the good times. very egalitarian.
