Hey all - i've been pre-allocated a few units I need to do over summer (2016-2017), however I want to change one and it doesn't give me the option to do it in WES. Will this option be available closer to the commencement or will I need to go to ask.monash to get them manually changed? Cheers

This was intermediate micro (ECC2000). It was just a question on expected utility and I did an insanely dumb thing in calculating it.

Hi all. Random question.

Has anybody come across the Master of Mental Health Science? I have some questions. Seems a bit of a long shot but I typically find student experience more useful. Otherwise, I'll jump across to the Ask Monash University thread.

Cheers. :)

Hi everyone - just struggling with falling WAMs so was wondering whether people here could list some easy WAM booster subjects for ARTS.

I study International Relations and Politics and they both mark extremely harshly; i only have 8 units left in my Arts degree so I'd prefer if I could score well on the remaining 8.

Please and thank you - the units don't have to be something related to what I study now.

If one transfers degree does their wam stay?

Say i have a WAM of 90 and i start a new degree and i do 8 units in that following year. Will those 8 units make a new WAM or simply add to the existing one i had before transferring?

If anybody wants to have input into a new learning space at Monash, I suggest completing this survey before Monday.

Hey,

My first question is this: what's your priority with uni? Why do you want a higher WAM? To qualify for further study? Employment viability? I'm personally not so sure about choosing units based on perceived ease rather than interest. In my mind, uni is the perfect opportunity to study what you actually want to study. I think it's a real shame to essentially waste units essentially for sake of a number.

But I understand your question and concerns. This sort of question comes quite regularly on StalkerSpace. Whilst I don't really have much input myself, I think ATS1297 Academic writing, ATS1298 Professional writing and ATS3743 Build your career: Planning and strategies for employability are common responses.

Do you have any interest in Philosophy, though? I'd totally recommend either of the first-year Philosophy units (Semester 1, Semester 2) if you haven't done them already. Disclaimer: I've only done ATS1371 of those two.

My understanding is that you will receive a new, independent WAM. But somebody else might like to confirm this.

Hey ya'll! So for those who haven't seen my previous posts - I sat for 2 exams while struggling with many personal issues. I applied and got deferred exams for 3 subjects I applied. 1 of the exams I sat I knew after the exam I would fail but the other exam I thought I would pass. the exam wasn't a hurdle. but I got a overall mark of 49  :'( while doing the stuff like in-semester labs there were instances where the demonstrator gave me unfair marks. but at that situation there wasn't much I could do. besides they would have add 0.5-1% of marks overall. thought it wasn't worth it to try and do something for that such as asking the unit coordinator etc. but at the end that 0.5 mark mattered. I mean if I had 49.5 it would have been converted to 50 right?  :'(

I am in first year Engineering. with this I have total of 5 failed subjects  :'( on the other hand if I do very well by repeating this subject next sem (which I think I could do if I sort out my issues) I will have a better WAM/GPA. So what should I do? is there any point trying to do something for this? so it all comes to this - which one is better ; having a better WAM/GPA or having less number of fails in the academic transcript? could someone who has been in this situation help me on this please?

What are your opinions on having two  3 hour labs in one day? Do you think this is too much? Has anyone done this before?

3 hour lab on its own is tough - I do one at the moment. I think if you have a 1 hr gap in between them, it should be fine. If you're going to do two in a row with no break, make sure you get up and go for a walk or something every so often, so you don't lose concentration.

For MUEP-chem we do 2 x 3 hours labs with an hours break.(but only 3 times a semester)
You should be fine with a decent break.

Yh I agree, 3 hours are tough. Had them 3 hour labs for all subjects last semester and the same  this semester.
But I think I'm gonna go ahead with it cause the two subjects for which these labs are for only have 4 labs the whole semester  so there is the small possibility that I may not even ever have the two labs on the same day, hopefully!
And yes I would have a 1 hour 'break' ....in a lecture, lolz. I'm just trying to min the number of days I'm at uni cause my commute is horribly long.
Thanks for the replies Sine and Aaron :)

I know people who have done it and best to avoid if possible. Yes, MUEP chem does it, but that's different because they don't have things due a week later (which your labs may or may not have - don't know what year you are :P), but they're also not as regular. Very big difference between having 2 labs back to back once a month to having it once a week.

If it's to avoid a commute, recommendation: skip your lecture, take that time to rest. Also, what units is this for? Because if it's, say, BIO1022 and EAE1022, welp the first only has labs every second week, and the second usually has really chill labs that you can come and go from as necessary, so that would be fine. But if it's something like PHS1022 and CHM1022, avoid, do not do, back-to-back is a horrible idea.
