When we take the positive root the question will have a restriction such as x>0 otherwise we state both answers. Hope this helps

Ofcourse! that makes sense. thank you !! So unless there is a restriction always present the answer with both +- if we are solving for x?

Question specifies 2 standard deviations!
If it said 95% confidence interval, you would use 1.96!

Would VCAA expect you to be able to work out the Z values for confidence intervals other than 90%.95% and 99%

Not in tech free, but in tech active you can just use inverse normal to find out :) menu 5 5 3

Also, does anyone know how do i do small sample calculations for sample proportion without using nCr and doing all those factorial calculations?
Thanks :)

Hi again!
In the methods 2015 exam 2 this question Q2c (which i have attached) creates a knew function by subtracting the two given functions. I was wondering how were we supposed to know to do this and what would kinda of be the key hint that this is the path you have to take for similar questions because a lot of the private companies have asked the same type of question and i keeping missing that, that is the method you take.

for example when it says find the max/min in a question we know we have to most likely differentitate so is there like a similar logic for these type of questions?

I'm sorry if my questions not very clear...
Thank you!!

Oh right thank you :)

Also instead of using hypergeometric distributions you can draw a tree diagram because it's a small population. but i tend to make a lot of silly mistakes using a tree diargram but thats the only other way i know of, sorry. hope that helps  :) :)

Pretty much what MandhreeE said. I just list all the combinations that would give the sample proportion and work it out from there (only seen 2/3 questions like this). So yup basically tree diagram or listing, whichever one you tend to use.

I heard on that final graphs drawn on the paper must be in ink, not pencil, does anyone know anything about this?

my teacher who is a methods exam 2 examiner said that you should draw in pencil but make sure that there is only a single line so erase all other lines that are on your graph other than your graph and all other points. does this make sense sorry? :) this is what i have been told but i'm not sure about everyone else

Those are usually common and easy to remember but in the case of not remembering them, you can work out the z values using your calculators inverse normal distribution function. Probably will only be necessary in exam 2.

Yeah this makes sense, so If I were to draw a line from an intercept to a coordinate (to indicate that's the point), that would not be allowed I'm assuming?

You probably got a general solution since you set no restriction on a trig function.
