Yeah number of essays are optional, but the more practice you do is better, and those are the things students are often worst at, that's why i had placed emphasis on that particular point :)

Just a point here, essays are damn excellent in consolidating your knowledge and analytical skills. Prac essays are also excellent in making you remember your examples as well :D

i've read your essays and you can prolly rattle off b+ material while actually asleep.
When i took EL, yeah we were made (told) to do an essay a week from the end of sem1,
and try for an essay a day closer to the exam.  I suck at essays, so all that writing was probably
the reason EL was my best subject.
