I believe the ATAR is calculated against ALL people in the same age group, even those that dropped out of school, so I don't think it is exactly 10%. If you calculated this against only people doing VCE then I think it would be slightly higher than 10%.

So is that why it's not possible to score an atar below a 30?

only assuming that 30% did not do vce than yes that would make sense

It's entirely possible to score an ATAR below 30, a girl at my school last year got ~17

There is a way to find out (I can't remember how)... I know a kid with 17 or 18 too...

Yes you do, I've seen a score below 30 with my own eyes and you do know that 50% of the state gets less than 30 right?

Yeah im confused, about the same thing too. btw despite being in year 11 this year doing a 3/4, come next year I think I will definitely look at study scores first and then slowly reveal my atar
