How does the exams affect SACs??

Im not sure where to post this, but I have a friend who has done really poorly in his SACs, below the cohort average for most of them. He's part of a strong cohort though. In the exam he got A+ and beat more than 2/3 of the cohort which had an exam average of a high A How does the sac scaling work for him??

The exam matters a lot more than SACS, and if you perform well on the exam (e.g A+) and had poor SAC marks  in comparison(e.g B), the SAC marks would be raised.

I've also been told that Rank 1 on exams gets the SAC marks of the rank 1 student on SACS etc. Don't know myself, but that's what I've been led to believe.

Tragesty, I'm not 100% certain but I'm fairly sure it's the other way around, i.e. Rank 1 on the SACS gets the top exam mark as well as their own, at least that's how I understand it, I could be wrong.

Rank 1 on SACs get top exam mark for their SAC mark. They keep their exam mark as their exam mark. THis is VCAA's explanation anyway

So rank 5 in SACs will get the fifth best exam mark for SAC mark?

yeah. that's the general gist but i'm not 100 % sure on specifics as people can get 200/200 SACs for e.g. Bio but no one averages 75/75 per exam

so with my friend's situation, would his SACs be able to scale to a low A+?

as far as i know, your friends ranking for the exam won't affect his moderated sac score.. only his ranking for the sacs and the schools overall ranking compared to the rest of the state, but i could be wrong!

no. i think it only makes a difference if there is a HUGE discrepency between grades in exam / sacs

(e.g. A+ / C etc.)
at this stage VCAA may have a look and see any reasons for the discrepancy

it's just a random example, i'm no where near sure that VCAA looks at all A+ / C anyway...
