Continuing this thread with another question: any good headsets with detachable mics? I'm not even sure if they exist, but I want to take my headset out and be able to use it without looking like a douche with a mic sticking in front of my face. I just need a new one because my old one broke and I can't use Skype anymore...

Hey guys I'm looking for some earphones and was wondering if you can give me some suggestions, but my budget is rather small. I can only pay a maximum of $60.

Also can anyone recommend a website ? I've heard there are a few good websites out there for headphones/earphones.

Does anyone own the Bose QuietComfort 15s? I always try them on whenever I'm in the Apple Store. They're great, however is it worth it?

STAY AWAY FROM BOSE AND BEATS. Neither of these can be considered good quality headphones. They certainly cannot compete with other headphones in the $200~300 range.
Beats: amplified mid-bass. messes up all the other bass. reduces mid. amplifies highs. What you get is just a lot of wub wub that's not very defined at all.
Bose: amplified mid, reduced bass and highs. Sounds reasonable for acoustics, or any other type of music that doesn't have lows and highs.
Skullkandy: Well, they make eye-catchy headphones, that's about it. The quality of sound is comparable to a mixture between Beats and Bose.

The only real 'commercial' brand that actually have good sound is Sennheiser. And only some Sennheiser have good sound.

Hey guys I'm looking for some earphones and was wondering if you can give me some suggestions, but my budget is rather small. I can only pay a maximum of $60.

Also can anyone recommend a website ? I've heard there are a few good websites out there for headphones/earphones.

Firstly, earphones (typically meaning earbuds) are inherently bad, because of their physical design (that's not quite true, but decent buds can cost a lot of money). You have two choices: headphones (those large ones that fit over your head), clip-ons (pads that clip on to your ear), or canal-phones (those ones with rubber tips that actually go into your ear). (and I have a personal aversion to canal-phones, so I'll just stick to the other two categories.)

Good headphones tend to sound excellent. However, the downfall is they tend to be bulky, and not as portable as earbuds. The main problem being you can't just unplug one ear to talk to people or leave the buds hanging out of the top of your t-shirt when you're not using them. If you can get around that:
- http://headphones.com.au/psingle?productID=203 <-- these are surprisingly good. They don't offer much clarity in sound, but at the lower end of headphones/earphones, the lack of bass is always a problem. These have bass, plenty of bass. You will have the full impact of the music, but it does sound a bit unresolved.
- http://headphones.com.au/psingle?productID=553 <-- much better sound. Unfortunately they are a bit bigger, and a bit more expensive.
- http://www.amazon.com/Sony-MDR-V6-Monitor-Series-Headphones/dp/B00001WRSJ <-- even better sound. The downside is these are huge.
Luckily, all of these ones are somewhat isolating. What that means is you don't hear the surrounding, and you don't annoy the whole library when you listen to music with these.

Clip-ons:
Your choices are a bit more limited.
- http://headphones.com.au/psingle?productID=173 - relatively cheap, much more portable. No isolation at all, so the person sitting next to you on the train will hear everything you hear.

Marcus (headphones.com.au dude) seems to be repping Brainwavz canalphones as of late. I'm currently using the M1 and it's extremely portable ,great for the price and if it breaks from rough handling, fuck it, it's 50 bucks plus warranty anyway. I've also tried RE0's which is probably the next go to choice for it. Most Brainwavz canals go for <$100 while the RE line costs ~$100.

Might go change up to headphones to SRH440 soon, hmm

It's really not that hard to quantify..., but I believe that being raped once is not as bad as being raped five times, even if the one rape was by a gang of people.

I have heard very good things about the SRH440.

I recently bought a pair of Audio-Technica ES7 for portable use (unfortunately my ears don't agree with IEM's). Even though I'm more used to the clarity in my A900x, these are still bloody good for portable cans. The bass. Holy shit the bass is amazing.

stay away from headphones unless you want to have hearing problems as you get older.

Hey Mao,

Why are these so cheap compared to other sites? And which would you recommend seeing as they're virtually the same price?
Sennheiser HD201 for only $20.13 at Amazon
Sennheiser HD 202 II for only $19.98 at Amazon

I listen to glitch, dub, funk, and chill. I would -really- like good bass but I'm on a budget, so out of those two which would you reccomend? And also, I need earphones that perform with really high quality to acoustic strings (literally violins, violas, cellos) (but I don't think that they would be a problem)

Cheers!

Edit: Also considering getting the HD280's if anyone can really talk me into it, but it really better be way worth the money and I have to be downright shocked at how good they are. I'm not much of an audiophile... I don't spend time hunting down FLAC's or anything. So if they're not going to blow me away then I won't buy em. The cheaper the better.
