The jewish school would've been Mt Scopus who usually are in the top 5 I think - awaiting for my friend in Year 11 to wake up to tell me how they performed.

That's the one. Thanks :)

People have to remember that it's the whole cohort that counts, and although 7*99.95 or 40% above 95 looks good, its the cohort as a whole that should reflect a schools success, and they used this fact to rank the schools in the newspaper. If your bottom half of your schools cohort performed not as well, then the results will reflect this. Perhaps that is why Grammar's median atar is relatively low to their great success in the upper atar ranks.
Nonetheless congrats to people who scored this highly, what I said before takes nothing away from such an amazing achievement!

If the top 55% of people score amazingly well and the bottom 45% of people fail miserably, then the median atar will still be extremely good, right?
I thought the "median" was only how the middle student performed?
It's not like the average...

Pretty much, it's why b^3 picked median, because extreme values don't affect it as much as it would if it were a mean score, like if someone had an atar of 15, it would just bring the median value down one, say from 99.60, to 99.55, whereas mean would destroy that value and bring it down a lot.
