Kazdawg is not a happy Jan- help!

Kazdawg is bitterly disappointed and needs to stop referring to herself in 3rd person. Nevertheless, I only got 85, and I'm really not happy with myself. I really think I'm capable of achieving about a 95 and I'm seriously considering repeating. People have told me that its really not worth repeating, but I guess my pride is bruised...a lot. But I deserve what I got, somehow, but I expected more from my subjects :(

I wanted to get into Commerce at Melbourne and its safe to say thats not going to happen. But my next preference was Commerce at Monash, for which you need about 90.40 or something now. Do I have a chance for that with all the clearly-in's going down and middle band? If not my next option is Arts at Monash but the In for that now is 88, but could I get into that and somehow end up at a double degree with Comm??

I'm really not wanting to do Bachelor of Business (Accounting) or (Banking and Finance) at Caulfield.

Help :(

What do you guys think?

DO NOT REPEAT YEAR 12!!! Please, listen to me. My older brother did it and only got a marginally better ATAR. The thing is, you can't go through that stress and pressure again. It's really difficult to motivate yourself for a second year of intensive study when you feel the first year didn't amount to what you wanted.

Just try and transfer between unis. Or better yet, try a TAFE course and see if you can get some credit off your first year.

Ughhh

You know what, if I get into Arts at Monash I'll be stoked. If Clearly-In's go down by about 5 and I make it into Comm I'll be over the moon.

But for now, I'll have the consolation that I'm a fucking idiot that wasted a year that could have been ownage.

Hey guys, should I do the Pi form and if so what do I say in it?

First, don't beat yourself up over at ATAR of 85. That's a respectable ATAR score considering the fact that you did better than 85% of your cohort. Also, not getting into commerce @ melb isn't the end of the world. Just get into a course @ monash with a lower entrance req, or science @melb (not sure whats the req. entrance score) and transfer at the end of the year. Treat this as a good opportunity to study something that you never would have if you got a high score, make some new friends, etc etc, and who knows, you might enjoy it more than the course that you had originally planned for.

Is it possible to transfer from Monash from Business(Accounting) or something to Commerce at Melbourne?

And do you think I have any hope of getting into Arts or Commerce at Monash?

It is possible to transfer to commerce, but only after at least 1 year at monash (since mid-year transfers take into account ATAR), but I hear it is quite competitive and you'll probably need a HD average.

Ahhh fun. How about this: Do you think I can get into Arts(global) which the Clearly-in now is 86.45 and then make it a double degree with Comm later?? Because that was my 2nd preference but you need 93 for that.

An email I got from Melbourne Uni in regards to transferring to Commerce after a year of Economics and Finance @ RMIT.

"Yes it is possible to transfer from another university, however this is a competitive process and you'll need to get a distinction/high distinction average to be eligible (i.e. 70% minimum but I would advise you to aim for a 75%). I also want to make sure you're doing Methods this year, as that is one of our prerequisites."

In response to transferring mid-year from another university:
"If you are able to achieve at least the Clearly-In Rank for 2012 then you can apply to transfer after just one semester (so you won’t have to wait a whole year). If you don’t, then you’ll have to study elsewhere for the entire year and then apply to us towards the end of that year. In that case you’ll need to aim for at least a 70% GPA because we won’t look at your ATAR at all anymore, just your GPA."

Hope this helps dude. Am in a very very similar situation (atar was 85.75), though I expected it (sent these emails a few weeks ago) so I'm not shocked or anything. I have no idea whether I should do Environments @ Melb for a year, or Economics and Finance at RMIT, or something else.

Awesome, thanks so much for sharing that!! Have you considered Bachelor of Business at Monash?

Ahaha you bet me by 0.1 :)

My aggregate was 150. Stupid Stupid Accounting!

I'm going to go Change of Preference at Monash and see what they say about what I can get into. Is that what they do at the Change of Preference Expo ?

You should do courses that interest you instead of just studying environments at melb. It's harder to get motivated and get the required average marks to transfer. I suggest go for RMIT and then transfer. + you could get your subjects cross-credited? (IDK about that)
