Studying a Language in VCE and uni offers

Hey guys,

I know a number of universities including UoM take the study of a VCE language into account during selection but how much does this affect your chances of receiving an offer? How does it work/how does it contribute to the selection process in comparison to other factors?

Any thought are welcomed, Cheers :)

Nothing at all.  If you have achieved over the Clearly-In and met all the pre-requisites including successful completion of specified subjects, submission of folio(s) and interviews (if applicable for the last two) then you will be automatically granted an offer.

It's only when you enrol into university and choose your subjects, that's when they look at what subjects you've done in VCE or equivalent.

Hmm I'm sure they do as my school had a section in the careers news a number of times this year stating this fact. Also, in the VTAC guide under Monash University for example, 2 aggregate pts are added to a maximum of 6 for completion of a number of units in VCE including LOTE, history and politics when applying for an Arts course.

History_buff, those extra points usually apply for Middle band students - students who come unfortunately short of the minimum clearly in ATAR scores, but who did extra subjects which would be highly considered to be enrolled in that course, should they come short of ATAR.

For example, i know clearly in at Arts Melb. is 88 from last year. Your 85.85 presumably would put you in the middle band category. But then, should you complete units such as LOTE, history and politics successfully in year 12, that adds extra points for middle band consideration.

Ultimately, don't lose hope, you can still enrol in Arts at UoM. But of course, should you fall short, arts at Monash is still the next best choice.

Unfortunately UoM doesn't have a middle band as such.  Their middle band is only reserved for Access Melbourne (SEAS applicants) only.

Yeah I'm still hoping to get into UoM so we'll see. If not I'll have to transfer from another course either externally or internally.

@Gloamglozer - yeah thats what I thought may be a problem, although I dont know why but I do remember my careers teacher saying they did take it into account :/

Found it [ http://www.salesianchad.vic.edu.au/documents/Careers%20Newsletter/2010%20Career%20Newsletter%2022.pdf ]. This careers newsletter states  that if you successfully  complete a LOTE in VCE you will automatically receive bonus pts towards your ATAR during selection from UoM among others.
