That's not what the guy at UoM said, he said although a CSP won't be guaranteed with a 99.00+ and grades in excess of 75%, you will certainly be in contention for it, and whether or not you receive it will be based on your interview score and your GPA
He said the GAMSAT wouldn't change a thing, but yeah I wasn't too sure about that either, but seeing as he was taking calls for general inquiries regarding admissions... hmm i hope he's right

Are you sure he's wrong, dc302?

Also, I went to the uni today for the expo/whatever it was and was told only 2 people from the Melbourne science course got into the MD program, guessing you were one of them?

I am sure he's wrong unless they changed it for next year. If he is right, then it doesn't make sense. Why? What if I did badly in the interview and my GPA, and I don't get the CSP. Someone else, who got the same GPA and interview as me, but did the GAMSAT and did very well in it, and gets the CSP. It would make no sense is the GAMSAT didn't help you as the guy said. I suggest you post here https://www.facebook.com/mdhs.sc and ask.

And, really? LOL if you're right then I guess I am one of them.

If you don't mind, could you tell me what you got on the GAMSAT and what your GPA was?

At the time of the offer, my GPA was 6.86 and GAMSAT was 71 (but 70 melbourne weighted).

That does not sound right at all :S
Aren't there like 200 CSP spots for the MD and a ton of them are from UoM B.Sc?
2011: ATAR 99.50
2012: Bachelor of Biomedicine, UoM
2015: Doctor of Dental Surgery, UoM

I wouldn't call them incredible but I believe with those scores, I was in the top half of the score range for those who received an interview.

Yeah doesn't sound right to me but I wouldn't know.

I think wires got crossed, applying for a CSP always involves GAMSAT. Lachlan and Carl are pretty awesome, they're not going to make basic mistakes like that.

255, of which 64 are bonded. 115 of these went to Biomed Students, who are the largest bloc by far in the course.

So there is no GPA average that needs to be maintained?

Can someone please do me a favour and link me to a webpage that actually states that? ^ :)
thanks!

For the chancellor's scholars program, there is no GPA that needs to be maintained, other than passes in the prerequisite subjects. I don't have a link handy but I spent today answering this question over and over again at Course Information Day...so trust me.

Also: Apparently over 50% of the Science graduates last year are going on to do  research

I'm just posting some stuff I was told there, both the thing about the GAMSAT and only 2 from BSc getting into the MD program sounded pretty weird, but yeah just what the people at the stands or on the phones were saying

asides from that, I was thinking of following in your footsteps, dc302. Not doing the undergraduate course in 2 years, but still doing major in pure mathematics (Which was Mathematics and Statistics?) while keeping my the required medicine subjects, so I have a chance of ultimately getting into the MD program

By the end of the degree, however, if I have a change of heart, I was wondering if I could structure the Science course in such a way that after the 3 years, I had the option of going into either the MD, Master of Engineering, or Master of Commerce.
Is that possible? Or would I have to cut one of those out. I'd prefer to keep all 6 breadth for philosophy and English/Literature type subjects

115 positions went to Biomedicine kids? Was that predetermined? Like did they set aside 115 positions for only Biomed students to fill? Or was that just how it ended up turning out, that 115 students were good enough to enter the course?

Why are you looking at that page, you have a Chancellor's Scholars place?

No minimum GPA is required in the undergraduate degree (however students may be required to undertake an interview).

No, just how it turned out. It went up from 84 the year before though and I expect it to go up again in 2012

Nirbaan, it is possible to do a major in maths and leave the option of the MD, 3 year master of engineering and master of commerce available. However, if you wanted to leave the 2 year master of engineering option, you would need to complete a major in one of the engineering systems streams.
