VCE Literature 3/4 2012 Roll Call
« on: December 18, 2011, 12:34:53 am »

I was really annoyed/vexed that all the other subjects already have their roll calls and literature still doesn't!

Since we are the Spec equivalent of English, lets copy the Specialist Maths roll call:

1. Why are you doing this subject?

2. Which texts are your school using? And, which texts do you currently believe you are going to use on the exam?

3. What study score are you aiming for?

4. Is literature considered as the best subject ever for you???!!!!

Good luck everyone; and make sure you read your prescribed texts over the holidays!!! ;)

...do you mean 2012? :)

I'm doing this subject because it's the only English I can actually stand to do. My writing elective teacher for Year 9/10 was a Lit teacher, and at the end of Year 10, encouraged me to study Lit, so I did. And it was awesome. Mac.Rob's doing Eliot, Mrs Dalloway, the Boat, the Bacchae, Hamlet and...I think that's it. I'll probably write on Hamlet and Chekhov (because my tutor for next year totally loves Chekhov, so I think I might have a shot at it) but I'll wait until I've finished reading all the Lit texts to decide for good. Aiming for at least a 48.

AND YES, LIT IS THE BEST SUBJECT EVER.

1. Why are you doing this subject?
- Good at it, read books fast, amazing at improvising essays.
- Don't want anything to do with maths (except Further.. but everyone knows Further is easy)
2. Which texts is your school using? And, which texts do you think you are going to write about on the exam?
- Chekhov, Love in the Time of Cholera, Lady Windermere's Fan
3. What study score are you aiming for?
- 50
4. Is literature considered as the best subject ever for you???!!!!
- Not in 2011, definitely not.
- Perhaps in 2012.

1. Why are you doing this subject?
I love literature and doing classics this year really helped my improve my lit skills.

2. Which texts are your school using? And, which texts do you currently believe you are going to use on the exam?
A few of my texts haven't arrived yet so I can't remember them all but we're doing Hamlet, Blake, The Boat, Chinatown. I don't plan on choosing the text for the exam yet purely because it will depend on what I end up enjoying the most.

3. What study score are you aiming for?
Would love above a 40 - should be able to answer this more effectively once I've completed a few SACs.

4. Is literature considered as the best subject ever for you???!!!!
It's definitely one of my favourites! I'm extremely excited for next year.

Hi all :)

1. Why are you doing this subject?
-The texts are diverse and exciting
-The course structure allows for creative development rather than rewarding cookie cutter essays (cough cough English cough)

2. Which texts are your school using? And, which texts do you currently believe you are going to use on the exam?
Mrs. Dalloway
The Bacchae
Persepolis
Eliot :3
Short Stories of Peter Carey

3. What study score are you aiming for?
50. But I'll accept anything above a 45.

4. Is literature considered as the best subject ever for you???!!!!
Definitely in terms of enjoyment.
In terms of marks....
probably not.
Time to turn that around :P

1. Why are you doing this subject?
I've always hated having the stuff you do in mainstream English, like analyzing newspaper articles and such, and I've always loved reading, so picking Lit seemed the natural choice for me  :D

2. What texts are your school using? And which texts do currently believe you are going to use on the exam?
Our exam texts are Emma and Hamlet, and the other texts we have are Chinatown and The Rip/

3. What study score are you aiming for?
Probably mid forties.

4. Is literature considered as the best subject ever for you???!!!!
Definitely! :)

1. Why are you doing this subject?
At first I chose it as a gapfiller for year 11 and because I went really well in year 10 english, but I decided to do year 12 lit because I enjoyed doing another english based subject. Love lit, hate english haha. My class is also really chilled and fun and my teacher is great, I guess that's why I'm doing it :)

2. What texts are your school using? And which texts do currently believe you are going to use on the exam?
Lady Windermere's Fan
Mrs Dalloway
The Hunter
Hamlet
The Broken Shore

atm probably considering Hamlet because I've been doing Shakespeare plays since year 9 so I probably have more experience in that area, but if I like the Hunter then it all just depends on the passages in the exam :)

3. What study score are you aiming for?
45+. Lit is a really hard subject though because everyone who does it is reasonably awesome at english etc. But, I'm not going to lie, I would love to get that elusive 50 (wouldn't we all!) haha :)

4. Is literature considered as the best subject ever for you???!!!!
I'm lucky enough to love most of my subjects, but lit is definitely on par with business (which I love)
so yeh, definitely considered one of my best subjects. everytime we leave class we rave about how good lit is hahaha :)

1. I have to do an english subject, our school doesn't host english language and I can't stand normal english, so I chose literature.
2. Hamlet and Emma
3. Aiming for a 35+
4. No. Specialist is, followed by methods and philosophy. Literature is my 4th favourite subject.

1. Why are you doing this subject?
Because it's the most interesting English. Mainstream sounds boring and Lang sounds even worse. Also my English teacher in year 9 was a Lit teacher and he was awesome. And my English teacher in year 10 was a Lang teacher and he was... less awesome. Oh and we did lang. anal. in year 10 and it was terrible. Yeah.

2. Which texts are your school using? And, which texts do you currently believe you are going to use on the exam?
- Eliot
- Mrs Dalloway
- The Boat
- The Bacchae
- Hamlet
I'll prolly end up doing Eliot and Hamlet. Because that's what they'll prolly suggest and I'm not smart enough to go and find works for myself to actually read. *sigh* Why am I doing Lit? Q__Q

3. What study score are you aiming for?
At least 40... Which is going to be difficult with my level of vocab, eloquence and, well, intelligence.

4. Is literature considered as the best subject ever for you???!!!!
Almost, yeah, probably XD Out of all the subjects I'm doing, it's probably the one I'm doing out of interest alone...

1. Why are you doing this subject???
English has always been my strongest subject so I picked lit up in yr. 11 and LOVED it. Taking 3/4 in yr.12 was a no brainer. One of the only subjects I have a genuine passion for.
2. Which texts are your school using??? And, which which texts do you currently believe you are going to use on the exam???
- T.S Eliot Collected Poems (anyone else doing this???)
- The French Lieutenant's Woman
- Chekov
- The Tall Man
At the moment I'm leaning towards Eliot and Chekov, but I'll wait until I get into some more detailed analysis before I decide.
3. What study score are you aiming for???
Not going to lie, 45+ would be nice, but I'll settle for anything above 40 as I understand the cohort for a subject like lit is very competitive, with the vast majority being highly competent English students.
4. Is literature considered as the best subject for you???
Without a doubt. Lit 2012 ftw :-D !!!
