OK Deakin university have made me an offer to pay all my HECS fees for the normal duration of my course while this sounds like a fantastic offer i was planning on going to Monash but willing to change my mind so in the opinions of the ATAR notes community i wanted to hear some opinions on what you guys thought?

Personally, I'd go to Monash. HECS fees are perhaps 30-40k for the whole course, which yes, admittedly, is a fair bit, but by the time you start working it shouldn't be too bad to pay it off bit by bit. You'll be more employable with a Monash degree, I think.

And you can totally just give up on life, not earn over 40k a year ever, and not pay HECS :P

Depends on the area, if its engineering then RMIT is better than Deakin.

Yeah, I heard for science/tech/maths courses RMIT is better, but for humanities/laws Deakin is better.

It also really depends on what course you're doing even in relation to the original question.  I've heard Deakin actually has some fairly strong business courses - do some research!

By area we mean like engineering or science or arts e.t.c RMIT and Monash are good for engineering, so as said above RMIT over Deakin.

For engineering, I believe RMIT > Deakin.

Also, RMIT happens to be in a really great location, so bonus points! :)

I personally wouldn't take the scholarship, but everyone's in a different situation so it's up to you.

Keep in mind that the last two years of mechanical at RMIT are at Bundoora, which depeding on your location may be harder to get to. But seriously, for engineering Monash or RMIT are the better universities. You can always make the money back up, its better to get a better degree now and earn the money later.

RMIT Bundoora is a great location for me as my family lives fairly close, it seems pretty unanimous that in the long term i will probably better off at a more well regarded degree at Monash or RMIT as it seems those degrees will benefit me in the long run.
