never really said anywhere that I want to be a journalist.

Out of curiosity, why would you consider a course so specific as "Sports Journalism" if you weren't interested in going into that profession? Are there other things such a degree can lead into?
VCE 2010-2011:
English | Philosophy | Latin | Chemistry | Physics | Methods | UMEP Philosophy
ATAR: 99.95

2012-2014: BSc (Chemistry/Philosophy) @ UniMelb

Currently taking students for summer chemistry and physics tutoring! PM for details.

never said I'm not interested in journalism either, but honestly I still don't know what I want to be doing in 10 years.
I haven't decided right now that I out and out want to be a journalist, I figured that such a course would lead to careers within the media industry, not necessarily just journalism.
I just want to do something that interests me and that I would enjoy.

In that case I definitely think Arts would be better on account of its broad nature. Even for careers "within the media industry" in general, a BA (Media & Communications) would be much more helpful :)

I just as much figured that and decided I was going to do Arts at Melbourne about 10 minutes after making the thread, but the additional input is still helpful.

This might be helpful - Merits of an Arts Degree? .

Remember prestiege or rankings really don't mean much to you as an undergrad. I've said this so many times before in more detail, so i won't do it again just here. All uni's can teach pretty decently and all the lecturers still have PhD's (which they just dont hand out), so they're still pretty damn good. For instance someone i know chose la trobe arts over melbourne arts because they liked the location, atmosphere and social aspects better than melbourne, all these things are much more likely to have a bigger impact on you than prestige or rankings i've found.

Depends on what you plan to do afterwards RE: prestige, ranking and so forth.

Bigger impact on ones social life perhaps. Even if you assume equal standards the marginal perspective will favour UoM
