CASIO Classpad-- Lethal equation

I was using my CAS classpad to solve equations simultaneously the other day. "Lethal equation" pops up on the screen and the calculator turned off itself. Ever since then, the screen is not as sensitive anymore.

Has anyone experienced anything like that? Please let me know!

Have you tried restarting it, updating or restarting it completely back to the factory settings?

It's never happened to me so this is all I could think of that might fix it. If all fails ring casio and hopefully they will have a solution. If all fails hopefully you can still claim it on warranty.

CASIO is not that good of a calc for VCE. If at all possible, try returning the calc for malfunction, and use the money to buy a Ti. Preferably get a second hand old grey ti nspire, as their the best for VCE maths. If this is not possible, then i guess the advice above is the best u could do. Good luck with fixing/replacing the cas!

Try graphing both functions and finding the point of intersection from that graph, that might work


I had a similar problem with a certain equation with the TI during some spesh q my teacher gave me, that method worked

is it hard to learn the whole jist of it when you've been using a classpad for 3 years?! im considering getting a ti but i think it may go against me..

and thats f'ed up! i did something once which took my calc forever to solve, but when it finally stopped 'beeping', it just turned off! and didn't turn on again! i changed batteries and it worked fine.. so im thinking it may have been somethign to do with the calc sucking up so much power it made it go haywire?!

Oh. If you've been using for 3 years, best stick with it. Otherwise, now could be good time to change as you have plenty of time to hone up your skils. TI is recommended option as it has more RAM etc, and higher quality graphing/manipulation of graphs, more people use it so more tricks around etc.
Also, i heard rumours that the Casio couldn't differentiate a function in MM exam 2 2010... sounds like something u don't want to get urself in

It shouldn't be to hard, the only knowledge I really had to retain from 1&2 regarding calculator functions was solve, differentiate and graph (maybe a couple more, but just showing it's not alot)

Also, most of the calculators have similar functions and set ups - I was able to help other students with their calc.'s without previously using them.

Additionally, tutorials exist for the TI calculators (on AN), so if you end up changing calculator's I believe you could do it successfully, especially if you do it now.

I'm sure AN members, myself included (TI-89 Titanium) would be glad to help if you end up doing so, good luck!

@Callum. Yeah! it basically killed it! im serious... I restarted it, back to factory settings, and the whole calc becomes really laggy. The touch screen is literally useless now... Yeah, i called up CASIO, and they actually wanted me to post the calc ALL the way to NSW (on my own expense!), simply bc they do not have a representative here in VIC.... it's so weird when they dont even use such calculator for HSC! However, in the end, they told me to bring it back to where i bought it, to let the shop send it to NSW. 2 hours after i returned it, the shop rang me up and told me to come get a new one. It's great, but, what if I encounter the same thing again? My warranty is expiring in like 2 weeks. I have no idea what's so special about that equation honestly... it's lethal... haha! What if, this happens during the exam?? I doubt i can borrow one from the school in the middle of the exam.

@Istafa. I can't use the TI one. It's a requirement that we use the classpad. It's quite ridiculous, as the teachers say that it's easier to teach, when they barely teach you how to use it. But is it really a safer option? Can my teacher do anything about it? The Ti is also cheaper, I think.

YES, there was this question that we did for sac at the start of the year, we couldn't graph an equation! many people couldn't do it by hand either, and literally failed it!

i only used it for a year, but barely touched it until recently.

@Rohitpi. good idea. but i really do not want to try it again... just in case! and CASIO will not be opened until the day before my warranty ends, i think!

Rather unfortunate about the school restricting which calculator you can use, sorry to hear that.

I am still not sure if I should return the classpad, and get a Ti. Please help me out here!!! If I were to get a Ti, should I get the Ti-Nspire or Ti-89?

As I've mentioned, it's a requirement that we use the classpad in school. If I really am changing to the Ti, I would be so left out.... teachers may go to the extent of disliking me.... What should I do??? I also do not want to encounter another "lethal equation" . Please advise!

Personally I had no problems with the 2010 methods exam with my ClassPad

Btw, there's a lot of benefits to the ClassPad, one of which is that you don't need to know any syntax, and it's also extremely fast to navigate, I did fine in VCE with it

took my classpad 2 seconds to do that . got x= -238.06....... , y=-92.5211..........
mustve had a dodgy one?
