Where can i buy cheap, good value whey? Preferably a bricks and mortar store in melbourne. Looking at NOW whey isolate but any stores are fine.

Also what whey do you guys use? What's the best one and why?

Im considering buying for the convenience, i don't wanna bring a jug of egg whites to school to consume after gym XD

From what I've read, Optimum Nutrition is pretty much one of the best brands. Cheapest I've found it is at BPG Supplements (aka Health4U) at 320 Chapel Street - conveniently close to MHS I guess. It's $75 for a 5lb tub. Not sure how it stacks up in terms of gains and whatnot, but I've found that it mixes a lot better than most brands. Don't generally need to drown it in liquid to prevent it from tasting like sand.

$75 for 100% Gold standard whey? That's really cheap, I think I've been there before but it was 85. Is it like a really crammed store?

I would go with ON Gold Standard, great value for money and decent protein. I did buy from ASN in richmond, but if shops are selling for $75 I'll definitely shop there.

Yeh, $75 for gold standard. It's $75 when I went there about a month ago. And yeh, BGP (or BPG, I forget) is basically the MSY of protein. It's ridiculously crammed up and once for me to get out of the store, someone walking in had to backtrack through the entire store and out just to let me out. The walking space there seriously only fits one person, and you're flanked on either side by towers of protein buckets. I think you'd actually die if you knocked something over in there.

It's been out of stock most times I've tried to get it so I'm not sure. Give them a call if you want. It's probably worthwhile doing so in case they don't have stock of even the 5lb one, which often occurs. From a quick Googling, their number should be 95291901.

yeah rang them up they're out of stock ATM of all ON stuff. I'll ring them back tomorrow to see if they have got it in. Reading some google reviews a few people complained about their customer service being really rude when you ask about prices :S, though i don't really care if it's cheap.

Unless the 10lb is <$130 there's probably no point in me getting it; should see if i can actually keep up my going to gym goal; does this stuff have a long use by date?

Most protein shakes don't pull off cookies and cream, strawberry, and banana off very well. Probs chocolate is the  best to stick with in the future.

I buy unflavoured concentrate from eBay for about a third to half of the price of what you can find in brick and mortar stores. Unflavoured tastes like cardboard the first few times you drink it but you should get used to the taste, I did. There is also cheaper, flavoured concentrate on eBay if you cannot stomach unflavoured. Just search "whey protein concentrate".

The fitness/supplement industry is full of ridiculous and unmeasurable claims and fancy packaging pretty much wherever you look. The cows it comes from and process of extraction of whey is literally the same for every brand of protein on the market and the only differences in final product are what has been added in by the individual company. Protein is protein and the only real differences you can find are between isolate and concentrate, and it would be a waste of money to buy isolate anyway since none of you are dieting down to 5% body fat or have serious cholesterol problems, I presume.

Save your money, avoid the gimmicks, and buy from Ebay.
